PART TIME DIPLOMA EDUCATOR POSITION

About the business and the role

Elder Street Early Childhood Centre is a 39 place long day care centre, located in Lambton, Newcastle, NSW.  We have been in operation since 2004 and have a strong community philosophy that values children's learning delivered in partnership with families. We have developed strong team values of Accountability, Collaboration and Courage that support our team's connection and professionality. We have a strong focus on ongoing professional learning and research. Elder Street Early Childhood Centre is a vibrant, dynamic, and exciting place to teach and work.  

We are seeking an educator to join our team for 4 days per week working 30.5 hours across the four days, commencing immediately. Working hours will be advised at interview.

As part of our commitment to child safety, strict pre-employment screening processes will apply to the successful applicant. Referees will be contacted to assess suitability to work within our service and a Prohibited Persons Register clearance will be conducted.

Essential requirements:

• Experience of more than 2 years since qualification achieved

• Hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Education

• Hold a current Working with Children Check

• Hold a current First Aid Certificate

• Hold current Asthma and Anaphylaxis training evidence

• Hold a current Certificate of Child Protection (or willingness to obtain)

• Hold a current driver's license

• Strong computer skills

• Strong understanding of Child Safe Standards

Job tasks and responsibilities

These include but are not limited to:

• Uphold child safe practices, ensuring children’s safety and wellbeing remain paramount at all times.

• Contribute to the day-to-day operation of the program in collaboration with our children, families and, team.

• Monthly team collaboration curriculum meetings with our team and our Educational Leader during work hours

•  Collaborate with educators to deliver a responsive curriculum aligned with the EYLF.

• Maintain compliance with relevant legislation, the NQS, and service policies.

• Build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.

• Contribute to ongoing professional learning and meaningful documentation of children’s learning and development.

Skills and experience

 The ideal candidate will have more than 2 years of experience in the sector and be able to articulate an understanding and experience of:

• Team collaboration and communication skills

• Team-based leadership and mentorship

• Critical thinking skills

• Why relationships are crucial in our role as teachers

• The EYLF's Principles and Practices and how they relate to children's learning outcomes

• The concept of teachers as learners and a pedagogy of listening

• Sociocultural theoretical perspective in relation to early childhood education and care

• The rights of the child and your subsequent image of the child.
