The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac) is a Victorian public health service and a world‑leading comprehensive cancer centre, dedicated to excellence across all spheres of clinical care, research and education. About the team

The Quality team supports Peter Mac to deliver safe, high‑quality and continuously improving care. Working across clinical and non‑clinical services, the team supports quality and risk management systems, incident management, accreditation and consumer participation, partnering with stakeholders to embed best practice and strengthen patient safety and service outcomes.

About the role

The Quality Coordinator plays an important role in supporting quality, safety and accreditation activities across Peter Mac. Working in partnership with clinical and operational teams, you will contribute to the implementation and monitoring of quality systems, lead audits and reviews, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance patient safety and service delivery.

A regular day will see you:

Facilitate organisation‑wide quality improvement, accreditation and audit activities.
Monitor, analyse and report on quality and safety data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
Provide advice and guidance to stakeholders on quality frameworks, standards and continuous improvement methodologies.
Lead clinical incident reviews including Serious Adverse Patient Safety Event and Sentinel Event reviews.
Contribute to the development, review and implementation of policies, procedures and quality systems.
Facilitate and lead governance committee meetings.

About you

You are a collaborative and detail‑focused professional with a strong interest in quality, safety and continuous improvement. You are comfortable working in a complex healthcare environment and enjoy partnering with stakeholders to drive meaningful change.

You’ll bring with you:

Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in quality, healthcare or a related field.
3-5 years’ experience in a senior role within a health organisation.
Experience supporting quality improvement, audit and/or accreditation activities.
Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret data and provide insights.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
Demonstrated understanding of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.

Position Summary

The Quality Coordinator works in collaboration with the Quality and Safety unit and Divisional Operations Directors to help lead the quality management program at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. The key functions of this position are to:

• Coordinate and provide leadership for the quality and risk management program within the division.

• Facilitate continuous improvement and evaluation within a quality framework that is consumer centred, driven by information and organised for safety.

• In partnership with the Quality Systems Manager and Clinical Data and Risk Management Officer, provide consultation and leadership to staff on the implementation of quality and safety frameworks, consumer participation and risk management.

• Provide leadership on specific quality initiatives/projects as allocated.

• Manage and report the ongoing effectiveness of the quality and risk management function:

With accurate and timely data collection and reporting
By management and monitoring clinical incident reporting
Utilization of a risk register and establishing KPI’s
Develop an audit program and manage recommendations accordingly

• Facilitate and lead governance committee meetings and actions associated

Essential Requirements

Qualification in Nursing, Allied Health or relevant discipline
Prior nursing or allied health experience
Experience in leading quality improvement projects within a large hospital setting.
3-5 years’ experience in a senior role within a health organisation.
Demonstrated understanding of quality management principles and practices with an emphasis on continuous quality improvement and organisational change.
Demonstrated understanding of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards
Previous experience in managing audits and audit processes.
A record of valuing, motivating and developing staff through effective leadership, communication, consultation and development.
Well-developed communication and leadership skills with the ability to work collaboratively with members of the Board, executive and senior clinical and non-clinical staff.
Well-developed project management skills with the ability to:
- develop, implement and evaluate strategies for achieving the organisation’s goals;
- lead change in a complex environment; and
- manage competing priorities and respond to emerging needs.
Proven capacity to define and reconcile complex and competing priorities, together with the ability to identify and engage key stakeholders in addressing the same.
Support, promote and lead clinical innovation across multiple campuses.
Excellent writing and analytical skills including a demonstrated ability to prepare reports using clear, concise language; organise information into a logical sequence and include content appropriate for the purpose and audience.
Competence in document preparation using MS Word, data collection and recording/ presentation using MS Excel and competence in using MS PowerPoint for presentations and posters.
Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development

Desirable requirements

A relevant tertiary qualification or working towards, in Health Care Management/Business/Administration (or substantial progress towards such qualifications) or other related disciplines.

1. Coordinate the development and review of the annual divisional quality plan in alignment with the Peter Mac strategic plan and other key plans as appropriate. Including supporting local departments in the development of their annual plans.

2. Assist in preparation and coordination of accreditation processes

Evidence of the implementation of accreditation requirements in preparation for organisation wide survey

3. Coordinate and maintain documentation of quality activities and audits which demonstrate that services standards are met (inclusive of integrated bedside audit tool or equivalent)

Evidence of implementation of key quality and safety initiatives
Assistance with clinical audit systems across the organisation

4. Provide leadership and education to support continuous improvement, innovation and service excellence. This includes collaboration with; local departments, local managers and quality portfolio holders.

Development of reports and presentations at key quality and safety committee meetings
Staff feedback demonstrates that a high level of support and service was achieved
Attendance at allocated quality committee meetings

5. Review, manage and post clinical incidents via RiskMan incident reporting database as well as monitor incidents and provide reports to management team on incident trends

Evidence of high quality report development and record management
Assistance in quality and safety publications
