About our Role:

The Senior Leader, Medical Oncology and Haematology is responsible for providing strategic, clinical, and operational leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient and whānau-centred cancer care services. This role leads multidisciplinary teams across oncology and haematology services, driving excellence in clinical practice, service development, quality improvement, workforce capability, and clinical governance. Working collaboratively with clinicians, operational leaders, and key stakeholders, the successful candidate will champion evidence-based practice, innovation, and continuous improvement while ensuring services remain responsive to patient needs, aligned with best practice standards, and reflective of St George's Hospital's values of Excellence, Resilience, Collaboration, and Integrity.

Essential skills/experience for the role:

You will share our unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional, patient-centred cancer care and improving outcomes for people living with cancer. As a senior clinical leader, you will demonstrate:

• Proven senior leadership experience within oncology, haematology, cancer services, or a related specialty, ideally across multiple sites or services.

• Extensive clinical expertise and experience in the delivery of medical oncology, haematology, and systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT).

• Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and support high-performing multidisciplinary teams while fostering a positive workplace culture.

• Strong strategic thinking and service development skills, with experience leading quality improvement initiatives and service transformation.

• Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across clinical, operational, and executive leadership groups.

• Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to critically appraise and apply evidence, promote innovation, and support a culture of continuous learning and enquiry.

• Comprehensive knowledge of current developments, best practice standards, and emerging trends in oncology, haematology, and systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT).

• Experience in clinical governance, quality and risk management, patient safety, and compliance with relevant professional and regulatory standards.

• Strong operational management capabilities, including workforce planning, resource management, and service delivery optimisation.

• Exceptional organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the resilience to lead effectively in a complex and evolving healthcare environment.

Qualifications and Registration

• Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC).

• Legally entitled to work in New Zealand.

• Postgraduate qualification relevant to oncology, haematology, leadership, or healthcare management is highly desirable.
