Tax Manager

About the role

An established and highly regarded accounting and taxation advisory practice based in South Yarra is seeking an Tax Manager to join its growing team.

This is a full-time leadership opportunity for a motivated taxation professional who is looking to play a key role in client advisory, team development, and the continued growth of a successful practice. The role offers a genuine pathway to senior leadership, including the opportunity to acquire an ownership interest in the business within the next two years for the right candidate.

As Tax Manager, you will lead taxation projects, manage key client relationships, and provide strategic tax advice across a diverse client portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and oversee taxation compliance matters including income tax returns, GST returns, Business Activity Statements (BAS), Self-Managed Superannuation Fund (SMSF) tax returns, and other statutory lodgements for corporate, trust, SMSF, and individual clients.

• Provide strategic tax planning advice, identifying opportunities for tax optimisation and risk mitigation.

• Prepare tax depreciation schedules and manage capital allowance claims.

• Manage SMSF compliance requirements, including annual returns, regulatory obligations, contribution and pension compliance, and liaison with SMSF auditors where required.

• Supervise team members and provide technical guidance, mentoring, and professional development support.

• Build and maintain strong client relationships through exceptional service and trusted advice.

• Conduct taxation research on complex and emerging tax issues.

• Assist in the development and implementation of firm-wide taxation methodologies and processes.

• Monitor changes in taxation, superannuation, and SMSF legislation and communicate relevant updates to clients and staff.

What we're looking for

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce, Taxation, or a related discipline.

• CPA, CA ANZ, or equivalent professional membership.

• Minimum 5 years' post-qualification experience in taxation advisory and compliance.

• Strong technical knowledge of Australian taxation law, including Income Tax, GST, FBT, and CGT.

• Demonstrated experience managing taxation engagements and delivering strategic tax advice.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

• Experience mentoring and developing junior team members.

• Proficiency with tax and accounting software platforms.

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

• Applicant must be Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.
