About the role
Support Worker & Community Connector – Burton
We’re looking for a steady, warm and values-driven support worker to walk alongside a friendly and creative man in his thirties, as he builds confidence, independence and meaningful connection in his community.
About the Person: A friendly, observant, witty and social man with a great sense of humour and a strong desire to feel included. The person we support takes great pride in contributing to his community, is passionate about helping others, and values feeling useful, appreciated and connected. He enjoys spending time with people he knows and trusts, helping others, contributing to his family and community, and sharing the things he loves.
This person’s interests include:
About the role: This is not a traditional “care” role. It is a relationship-based role focused on capacity building, community connection and everyday skill development. The right person will use ordinary moments such as getting ready for the day, choosing an activity, travelling safely, volunteering, cooking, exercising or connecting with others to build confidence, independence & a sense of belonging.
In this role, you will:
Hours: Wednesday: 9:30am – 3:30pm and Friday: 9:00am – 3:00pm
Pay: Level 2.1, Casual Rate – $45.28 per hour
What the week looks like: Supports will focus on active, purposeful community activities such as walking, hiking, disc golf, birdwatching, swimming or similar. Activities should be intentional and used as opportunities to build skills, confidence, decision-making and independence.
Fridays include supporting with a valued volunteering routine: collecting bottles and cans and taking them to a nearby recycling depot. Applicants will need to be comfortable transporting recycling in their own vehicle.
All applicants must have or be willing to obtain:
This role may suit you if you are someone who:
You will be supported by a Facilitator through ongoing coaching and mentoring. The person being supported and his family will remain central to this process, helping you understand what works well, what matters to him, and how best to support.
You’ll also need to be comfortable with:
This is a meaningful opportunity for someone who wants to do more than “fill a shift”. You’ll be part of helping someone build a wider, richer life: more confidence, more friendships, more independence, more community contribution and more chances to be known for his strengths. If you value real relationships, purposeful work, patience, humour and consistency, we’d love to hear from you.
