About the role
Summer Hill Village Vet | Summer Hill, Sydney NSW
Full-Time | $32–$35 per hour, depending on experience
We're looking for a Cert IV Veterinary Nurse to join our independently owned practice in the heart of Sydney's Inner West.
At Summer Hill Village Vet, our nurses are an important part of the clinical team. You'll be trusted to use your skills, encouraged to keep developing them, and supported by an experienced nursing, veterinary and management team.
If you enjoy variety, interesting cases and being genuinely involved in your patients' care, we'd love to hear from you.
4 × 10-hour weekday shifts
Fully funded RECOVER CPR training
3 days of paid study leave every year
Paid staff meetings and training sessions
Ongoing professional development, training and mentoring
Staff discounts for your own pets
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Regular performance and salary reviews
Summer Hill train station directly across the road
Annual team Christmas party
Independently owned – not a corporate group
We want our nurses using their clinical skills and playing an active role in patient care.
Your days will be varied and may include:
Surgical and anaesthetic nursing
Dental procedures, charting and radiography
Hospital and inpatient care
Nurse consultations and triage
Admissions and discharges
Client communication and education
Patient advocacy and hands-on clinical nursing
Our caseload isn't limited to dogs and cats. We also see rabbits, birds, exotics, wildlife and rescue patients, alongside challenging medical, surgical and dental cases.
Our team regularly works alongside visiting specialists in surgery, diagnostic imaging, medicine, ophthalmology and cardiology, giving our nurses exposure to interesting cases and opportunities to continue building their clinical skills.
The core weekday roster consists of 4 × 9-hour shifts, giving you a regular weekday off each week.
Weekend shifts are shared across the nursing team on a rotating roster:
Maximum of 2 Saturdays in every 4 weeks
Maximum of 1 Sunday in every 6 weeks
We believe in being upfront about the roster from the beginning so you know exactly what the role involves.
We're looking for a Certificate IV qualified Veterinary Nurse, ideally with previous experience in a companion animal practice.
You'll fit in well with our team if you:
Take pride in providing excellent patient care
Have a good foundation in general veterinary nursing
Enjoy surgery, anaesthesia, dentistry and hospital care
Communicate confidently and compassionately with clients
Work well independently while knowing when to ask for support
Are organised, reliable and proactive
Enjoy learning and sharing knowledge
Want to contribute to a positive and supportive team environment
If you're Cert IV qualified, have a solid nursing foundation and think you'd be a great fit for our team, we'd still love to hear from you.
We're an independently owned, progressive small animal practice with a passionate team and a strong focus on high-quality medicine and patient care.
We're busy, our standards are high and no two days are quite the same – but you'll have an experienced team around you who genuinely wants you to succeed.
We want our nurses to ask questions, advocate for their patients, contribute ideas and continue developing their clinical skills.
Most importantly, we want our nurses to be nurses.
We'd love to meet you.
