About the Role
On behalf of our client - a specialist 4WD and off-road workshop that stocks parts for virtually every make and model - we are seeking an experienced Motor Mechanic (General). This role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of vehicles, with a strong emphasis on 4WD systems, heavy-duty suspension, driveline components, and engine performance. You will work in a well-equipped shop that handles everything from routine servicing to complex mechanical and electrical fault-finding on modern and classic 4x4s.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
• Detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in engines, transmissions, steering, and 4WD-specific systems (e.g., transfer cases, differentials, locking hubs) using diagnostic computers and manual test equipment.
• Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and suspension components; inspect parts for wear or damage and refer to service manuals to determine repair or replacement needs.
• Repair or replace worn or defective parts – including clutches, brakes, CV joints, and turbochargers – and reassemble mechanical components to manufacturer specifications.
• Perform scheduled maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, lubrications, and engine tune-ups to ensure smooth running and compliance with emission regulations.
• Test and adjust repaired mechanical parts (e.g., wheel alignment, brake balance, engine timing) to verify proper performance and safety.
• Inspect vehicles for roadworthiness, issue certificates, or detail required repairs; may respond to breakdown calls for on-site assistance.
Requirements
• Trade qualification as a Motor Mechanic (General) or equivalent experience.
• Proven 1-year full-time experience in diagnostic skills with both conventional and computerized systems, especially on 4WD and light commercial vehicles.
• Ability to interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and parts catalogues accurately.
• Strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and a valid driver’s license (manual license preferred).
• Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
• Relevant qualification to above field.
Apply now to join a team that works on all vehicles – from daily drivers to serious off-road rigs.
Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter detailing your relevant experience. Applications will be reviewed as received, therefore, please apply as soon as possible before the closing date.
Please note: All applications are confidential. We are acting as the exclusive recruitment agent for this role, and our client’s identity will be disclosed to shortlisted candidates.
