About the role
Infinite Engineering Pty Ltd is a proudly Australian-owned precision manufacturing company specialising in complex machined components for the Aerospace, Defence, Communications, Radar and Advanced Manufacturing sectors.
Based across multiple Melbourne locations, we continue to invest in our people, manufacturing capabilities and systems to support the continued growth of our business.
Our reputation has been built on quality, reliability and technical capability, delivering precision-engineered solutions to some of Australia's most demanding industries.
At Infinite Engineering, management remains actively involved on the shop floor and operates machines daily. We understand machining, the challenges that come with it, and the importance of having skilled people who can confidently take ownership of their work.
About the OpportunityDue to continued growth, we are seeking experienced CNC Machine Setters / Machinists for our Rowville and Sunshine West facilities.
This is a machine SETTER position – not an operator-only role.
We are specifically looking for experienced machinists who can confidently and independently set up CNC machines, prove out jobs and establish a reliable process for production.
You should be comfortable taking a job from the drawing and existing program/setup information through to a proven and inspected first-off component.
We have opportunities for experienced machinists from both CNC Milling and CNC Turning backgrounds, depending on your skills and preferred location.
CAD/CAM programming experience, particularly SolidCAM, is a significant advantage, but strong practical machine-setting skills are the priority.
What We Mean by an Experienced CNC SetterYou should be confident performing tasks such as:
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
Understanding job and setup requirements
Selecting and installing appropriate tooling
Setting tools and tool offsets
Setting workholding, fixtures, chucks and vices as required
Establishing and verifying work offsets and datum positions
Loading and verifying CNC programs
Safely proving out a new setup
Working through programs and identifying potential issues
Producing and inspecting first-off components
Making appropriate tool and wear offset adjustments
Using precision measuring and inspection equipment
Troubleshooting tooling, setup and machining issues
Establishing a stable and repeatable process for production
You do not necessarily need to be a CAD/CAM programmer, but you must understand the machining process and be capable of setting CNC equipment confidently, independently and safely.
Candidates whose experience is primarily loading/unloading parts, pressing cycle start or operating an already-established production process are unlikely to be suitable for this position.
Two Locations – Different Machining OpportunitiesOur Rowville facility is focused on modern CNC milling and advanced manufacturing, including complex multi-axis and 5-axis machining.
Depending on your experience, you may be involved in:
3, 4 and 5-axis CNC machining
Complex component setups
Multi-axis machining
First-off and low-to-medium volume production
Process development and optimisation
CAD/CAM programming opportunities
Equipment includes:
OKUMA Machining Centres
DOOSAN Machining Centres
KENICHI 5-Axis Machining Centres
Programming is completed using SolidCAM / SolidWorks.
Experience with multi-axis machining, 5-axis setups and SolidCAM would be highly regarded for our Rowville operation.
SUNSHINE WEST – CNC TURNING & PRODUCTION LATHESOur Sunshine West facility has a strong focus on CNC turning and production machining, including CNC lathes equipped with automatic bar feeders.
This environment suits an experienced CNC Lathe Setter who understands how to establish, prove and maintain a reliable production process.
You may be responsible for:
Setting CNC production lathes
Setting and operating automatic bar feeders
Setting chucks, collets and workholding
Tool selection and setup
Setting tool and work offsets
Proving programs and producing first-off components
Managing tooling and wear offsets throughout production
Troubleshooting production and machining issues
Maintaining dimensional consistency across production runs
Setting jobs for efficient, repeatable production
Monitoring established processes and identifying opportunities for improvement
Our Sunshine West CNC turning equipment includes:
DMG MORI
MORI SEIKI
DOOSAN
Automatic bar feeding systems
Previous experience setting and operating production CNC lathes with automatic bar feeders is highly regarded.
Experience with DMG MORI, MORI SEIKI or DOOSAN equipment would also be advantageous.
About YouTo be considered, you should have:
Demonstrated CNC machine-setting experience
Strong CNC milling or turning experience
Confidence setting machines independently
Strong understanding of tooling, workholding, offsets and machining processes
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Ability to produce and inspect first-off components
Ability to identify and correct machining or setup issues
Experience using precision measuring equipment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Good practical problem-solving skills
Ability to work with minimal supervision
A positive and team-focused attitude
Commitment to continuous improvement
Depending on the position and location:
CNC production lathe experience
Automatic bar feeder experience
DMG MORI, MORI SEIKI or DOOSAN experience
5-axis milling and setup experience
CNC programming experience
SolidCAM / SolidWorks experience
Fanuc G-code knowledge
Siemens or Okuma control experience
Experience machining complex or tight-tolerance components
Trade qualification in Engineering or Precision Machining
Aerospace, Defence or other high-precision manufacturing experience
Permanent full-time opportunities
Competitive remuneration based on skills and experience
Choice of Rowville or Sunshine West locations
Opportunities across CNC milling and production turning
Diverse and technically challenging machining work
Aerospace, Defence and advanced manufacturing projects
Supportive and experienced manufacturing team
Management that understands machining and operates machines
Opportunity to take genuine ownership of machine setup and production
Opportunities to develop advanced machining and CAD/CAM skills
