About the role
Spectrum Surface Treatment is seeking an experienced Coatings Inspector to join our team in Wangara.
We specialise in abrasive blasting and industrial protective coatings for structural steel, mining, infrastructure, oil & gas and commercial projects. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of quality and can ensure our work consistently meets client, specification and industry requirements.
As our Coatings Inspector, you will be responsible for the inspection, testing and documentation of coating works throughout the production process – from incoming steel and surface preparation through to final coating acceptance.
This is a hands-on role working closely with our production team, supervisors, management, clients and third-party inspectors.
Key responsibilities include:
Conducting pre-blast, post-blast and coating inspections
Measuring and recording surface profile, environmental conditions, surface cleanliness and soluble salts where required
Conducting Wet Film Thickness (WFT) and Dry Film Thickness (DFT) inspections
Identifying coating defects and non-conformances before work progresses to the next stage
Ensuring specified coating systems, products, colours and DFT requirements are correctly applied
Preparing and maintaining ITPs, inspection reports, coating records and QA documentation
Reviewing and understanding project specifications and determining inspection and hold-point requirements
Coordinating client and third-party inspections
Managing NCRs, repairs and close-out documentation
Ensuring inspection equipment is maintained, calibrated and fit for purpose
Working closely with production personnel to improve coating quality and reduce rework
Maintaining complete and accurate traceable inspection records for each project
We are looking for someone who is thorough, organised and confident enough to raise quality issues when something isn't right.
Ideally, you will have:
AMPP Certified Coating Inspector / NACE Level 2 Accreditation
5+ years experience inspecting industrial protective coating works
Strong knowledge of abrasive blasting, surface preparation and industrial coating application
Experience with DFT testing, surface profile testing and environmental monitoring
Ability to interpret coating specifications, technical data sheets and project documentation
Experience preparing and working with ITPs and QA documentation
Strong attention to detail and record-keeping
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production teams, clients and third-party inspectors
A practical understanding of workshop coating operations and production requirements
Quality is a critical part of our operation. We need someone who will take genuine ownership of the inspection process rather than simply completing paperwork.
You should be comfortable identifying issues early, communicating them clearly and working with production to have them rectified before they become a client issue.
We value people who are accountable, practical and proactive.
Full-time position
Competitive remuneration based on experience and qualifications
Long-term opportunity within a growing industrial coatings business
Exposure to major mining, infrastructure and commercial projects
Supportive management and production team
Opportunity to have a genuine influence over our QA and coatings inspection systems
Location: Perth, WA
Employment: Full-time
If you are an experienced Coatings Inspector looking for a role where quality is taken seriously and you can make a genuine impact, we'd like to hear from you.
