Trainee tax Accountant

About the role

ACCOUNTANTS & TAX AGENTS (SM) PTY LTD is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Trainee Tax Accountant to join our growing team in South Morang, Victoria. This is a full-time position offering an excellent opportunity to launch your career in taxation and accounting. You will work under the guidance of experienced tax professionals, developing your expertise in tax compliance, planning, and advisory services whilst supporting our diverse client base. Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and lodgement of tax returns for individual and business clients

• Conduct research on taxation matters and interpret tax legislation to provide accurate advice

• Maintain and reconcile client accounts and financial records with attention to detail

• Support the development of tax planning strategies under supervision of senior accountants

• Respond to client enquiries and provide timely communication regarding tax matters

• Prepare financial statements and working papers in accordance with accounting standards

• Assist with GST and other indirect tax compliance obligations

• Contribute to the identification and resolution of tax risks and compliance issues

• Maintain professional standards and adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct

What we're looking for

• Tertiary qualification in accounting or commerce (or currently enrolled in an accounting degree)

• Strong understanding of fundamental tax principles and tax legislation

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail

• Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office applications

• Clear written and verbal communication skills to effectively liaise with clients and colleagues

• Demonstrated organisational ability and capacity to manage multiple priorities

• Professional demeanour with a commitment to ethical conduct and confidentiality

• Willingness to learn and develop technical competencies in taxation
