About the team

The Town’s Corporate Services directorate covers a broad portfolio including finance and rating and customer services, information management and technology, procurement and children’s services (long day care centres). We actively collaborate with stakeholders to deliver exceptional services, sound financial management and good governance.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Financial Accountant to provide effective and efficient finance and accounting services while ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and accounting standards. Reporting to the Manager Financial Services and leading a small team of Finance Officers, this role plays a critical part in supporting the Town's financial sustainability and governance framework.

Key responsibilities include:

• Preparing monthly and annual financial statements and coordinating end-of-month processes.

• Managing statutory accounting and reporting requirements in accordance with Local Government legislation and Australian Accounting Standards.

• Coordinating the Town's annual audit process with the Office of the Auditor General.

• Maintaining balance sheet reconciliations, trust accounts, fixed asset registers and investment records.

• Preparing and lodging compliance reports including BAS, TPAR, Fuel Tax Credits and FBT.

• Providing technical financial advice and supporting continuous improvement of financial systems, policies and procedures.

• Leading and developing Finance team members while contributing to budget preparation, financial planning and business partnering activities.

• Prepare and coordinate the annual grant acquittal processes

About you

You are a highly skilled accounting professional who combines strong technical expertise with a collaborative and customer-focused approach. You thrive in a values-driven environment and enjoy leading teams, improving processes and delivering high-quality financial outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related discipline.

• CA or CPA qualification, or significant progress towards professional accreditation.

• Demonstrated financial accounting experience, preferably within Local Government.

• Strong knowledge of accounting standards, statutory reporting and compliance obligations.

• Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial management systems.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

• The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Salary and Benefits

This full-time, permanent position attracts a salary of up to $128,000 per annum, dependent on qualifications and experience, plus superannuation.

The Town also offers:

• Up to 4% additional superannuation (conditions apply)

• 17.5% leave loading

Working Hours

This is a full-time position working 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Flexibility options such as condensed hours (19-day month) may be negotiated for this role.
