Education Assistant - Special Needs

We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Ashburton Drive Primary School (PS) motto is 'Dream, Believe, Achieve' and the school song is, 'You Can Do It'. The Role

Suitable applicants will ideally possess highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with teachers, students, families, and support staff to create and maintain a supportive and inclusive education program that meets the diverse needs of students.

Applicants with extensive experience and knowledge in supporting students with a variety of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, diabetes, anxiety, and trauma, are encouraged to apply.

Suitable applicants should ideally exhibit strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to proactively support student learning, behaviour regulation, and social and emotional development through the implementation of effective and responsive strategies. Experience in using a range of approaches to develop communication, socialisation, and self-regulation skills is highly desirable.

Suitable applicants should also display the ability to work independently with confidence and initiative, effectively prioritising tasks and responding to student needs in a dynamic school environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, alongside a proactive and professional approach, are integral to this role.

Eligibility

  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, including report writing and the ability to effectively interact with students with special needs, and liaise with parents, teachers and community members and assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to a professional team and provide advice and evaluation in the development of the education program, including special education and therapy programs where they have been implemented.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist professionals in the implementation and evaluation of education programs, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
  • Demonstrated effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or psychologists.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well being of students.
