The position

The IB MYP Coordinator role is integral in the effective implementation and ongoing management of the IB MYP at CGGS. The IB MYP provides students in Years 6 to 9 the opportunity to expand on their IB learning journey following the PYP from ELC to Year 5 and as a connector to the IB Diploma Programme (DP) in Years 11 and 12. The IB MYP Coordinator is a middle leadership position at CGGS and is responsible for the coordination and development of the IB MYP (Years 6 to 9). The IB MYP Coordinator is involved in the Middle Years implementation of the IB programmes and is the direct point of contact with the IB in matters pertaining to the IB MYP. Effective liaison with the Junior School Management Team, Senior School Director (Learning and Innovation) and IBDP Coordinator is essential for this position.

1.Academic

Responsible for the Quality of the Academic offerings of the IB MYP including:

• Overseeing the planning, delivery, assessment and evaluation of all IB MYP curriculum including course content; its development and differentiation, implementation and evaluation.
• Working with Heads of Faculties in the Senior School and Junior School Director (Learning and Innovation) to ensure the quality of teaching within the IB MYP.
• Ensuring that the planning, teaching and assessing of curriculum incorporates the coherent development from Year 6 to Year 9 of the IB Learner Profile(LP) and Approaches to Learning (ATL).
• In collaboration with Directors and Heads of Faculty, actively seeking opportunities to embed the IB LP, ATLs and CGGS values.
• Ensuring that data is used in reflection upon teaching practice and assessment quality.
• Overseeing the community project component of the IB MYP, in line with the strategic vision of the school.
• Oversee the development and implementation of engaging Interdisciplinary Units (IDUs) in Year 6 to Year 9.
• Collaborate on planning for the Year 7 transition curriculum
• Organising and leading regular collaborative planning of the MYP in vertical and horizontal, discipline and cross formats.
• Creating links and/or networks with organisations and institutions in the ACT, and beyond, to further the learning opportunities for the teaching staff and students.
• Responsibility for ongoing programme evaluation and innovation, ensuring the MYP remains current and responsive to student and community needs.
• Engaging with student voice in feedback and development of future programmes in the IB MYP

2.Staff support and learning

Responsible for supporting IB MYP teachers in the delivery of the programme through:

• Supporting and advising teaching staff regarding the administration of the IB MYP.
• Communicating IB MYP information as needed at meetings at various levels across the school.
• Providing orientation sessions for all new staff, as necessary, to introduce them to the IB MYP.
• Assessing the professional development needs of IB MYP teachers and coordinating their participation in appropriate workshops.
• Participating in the Middle Leaders program of CGGS.
• Mentoring and coaching of teachers in IB MYP pedagogy.

 3.Administration

Responsible for the administrative organisation of the IB MYP, including:

• Liaising with the Senior School Director (Learning and Innovation) and Junior School Director (Learning and Innovation) to ensure that the IB MYP is meeting the compliance requirements of the ACT Education Directorate, ACARA, and the IB.
• Assisting with any IB MYP related certificates and prizes in the Junior School and Senior School Presentation Days.
• Managingthe IB MYP budget.
• Ensuring school IB MYP information is appropriately maintained through MyIB and CGGS systems, including the LMS and the database of planners for IB MYP.
• Act as the liaison between the school and the IB with regards to the IB MYP evaluation processes.
• Liaise with the IB DP and PYP coordinators to maintain a consistent whole school approach for policy and procedures relevant to IB standards and practices.

 4.Leadership

Promotion and forward movement of the IB MYP at CGGS.

• Demonstrate initiative and insight into the educational offerings of the IB MYP.
• Delivering workshops and information sessions to families, students and staff, as needed
• Provide regular content for school publications, including newsletters, the school yearbook, social media and contributions to school board reports as requested.
• Work with the relevant staff from Inclusive Learning and Enrichment, the Heads of Faculty and Pastoral teams to support all IB MYP students and ensure that the learning needs of all students are being met.
• In collaboration with the Senior School Director (Learning and Innovation) and the Careers Advisor and Coordinator, use student data to provide information and recommendations on student pathways into their senior phase of learning.

To note:  It is the nature of the work at CGGS that tasks and responsibilities are, in many circumstances, unpredictable and varied. All staff members are therefore expected to work in a flexible way when the occasion arises and undertake tasks that are not specifically covered in the position description.

Skills and experience

• Relevant Teaching qualifications with Master and PhD level study highly regarded.
• Previous experience in a leadership role in a school in leading the IB MYP and significant experience teaching in the IB MYP.
• A WWVP and TQI Certification.
