About the role
PWDA is seeking a full-time regional individual advocate who is based in Gympie for a 12-month fixed term contract (with possibility to extend).
About Us
We are Australia’s national peak rights and advocacy organisation for people with disability, advancing and protecting the rights, health and wellbeing of the people and communities we serve. Our vision is of a socially just, accessible and inclusive community, in which the human rights, belonging, contribution, potential and diversity of all people with disability are recognised, respected and celebrated with pride.
Our Values
About the role
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Advocate who share our values, to provide issue-based advocacy support to people with disability living in the Gympie area. This role is vital in promoting, protecting, and realising the human, legal, and service user rights of people with disability, in line with the National Disability Advocacy Program (NDAP) and Queensland Disability Advocacy Program (QDAP).
You will work directly with clients via face-to-face and telephone advocacy, particularly supporting individuals with cognitive impairments and/or communication challenges. Your presence in the region will strengthen our local engagement.
No two days are the same as you assist clients in decision-making, complaints, legal access, and referrals; engage with local networks and promote PWDA services; support intake and referral processes during high demand and contribute to systemic advocacy and organisational activities.
Note: This is a fully remote position. Applicants must have access to a suitable and private home workspace that supports confidentiality and productivity.
Here are our non-negotiables;
Bonus points if you have relevant tertiary qualifications and/or lived experience of disability.
