Social Traders is the leading industry body for social enterprise and social performance, established since 2008. We certify social enterprises, connect them with business and government members, and work with government on social procurement policy. We manage Australia's largest social enterprise dataset and the sector's impact measurement system.

Our member portal already connects buyers and social enterprises, and we are now building a new platform to track social procurement and deliverables for our members. We are looking for a Product Engineer to help build and support these products as they grow.

This is a hands-on, full-stack role in our Impact, Data and Digital team, working alongside our Digital Systems Lead and Digital Enablement Specialist. In a small team you work across the whole product, from the database to the interface, and you see what you build put to use quickly.

• Build features across the stack, front end, back end and data, for our member portal and the new tracking platform.
• Maintain the integrations our products rely on, including payments, search, authentication and reporting.
• Test, debug and support what you release, keeping it reliable for members and for our internal teams.
• Work with the team and stakeholders to turn requirements into working software.
• Help improve how we build, from testing and tooling to documentation.

Our technology

We build on a modern, fully TypeScript stack: Next.js on the front end, tRPC and serverless AWS on the back end, and PostgreSQL through Supabase for data. We test with Playwright, deploy through GitHub Actions, and monitor with Sentry. You won't need every one of these on day one, but you should be comfortable working in this kind of environment and keen to pick up the rest.

Essential

• Demonstrated experience building web applications using Next.js and Supabase, or similar frameworks and technologies.
• Strong TypeScript and a modern React framework such as Next.js.
• Comfortable with a relational database (PostgreSQL) and building or using APIs.
• Able to work independently on well-defined features while collaborating closely in a small team.
• A clear communicator who can work directly with people who aren't developers.
• An interest in product, not just code, and in the social change our work supports.

Nice to have, or keen to learn

• Any part of our stack: Supabase, serverless AWS, next.js
• Automated testing (Playwright) and continuous delivery (GitHub Actions).
• Integrating third-party services such as payments, search or authentication.
• Reporting tools (PowerBI) or CRM data (Salesforce).
