About the role
Hillmans Transport is Toowoomba based Family owned Transport company. With a fleet of of over 40 prime Movers and 100 Trailers. All of the prime movers are currently Volvo and Mack and operate under Maintenance contracts with the manufacturer through the local dealer Western Truck Group. All servicing and breakdown support is carried out through the dealer under service contract provision.
We currently have a vacancy opening in our workshop team and looking for skilled Diesel Mechanic to oversee and maintain our fleet of modern trucks and trailers to the highest standard. Our Toowoomba depot features state-of-the-art equipment to support our dedicated teams.
Roster: Monday to Friday – 7am to 5:00pm, with one hour of breaks included daily and paid on call every second week for break down support.
Key Responsibilities:
Over see and perform where required routine maintenance and servicing of trailers and depot machinery inc oil changes, greasing, filter changes where required. All servicing and major work on Prime Movers is conducted by the dealer.
Carry out basic repairs
Conduct basic inspections and troubleshooting of trucks and trailers and other equipment as required
Maintain accurate service records and reports on equipment performance. This is a critical component of the role.
Ensure the optimal operational performance and safety standard of equipment is met at all times.
Adhere to safety standards and ensure compliance with company policies
Manage and oversee workshop and yard staff and assist mechanics and other technical staff as required.
Work autonomously and within a team to ensure equipment reliability
Prerequisites:
Previous experience as a serviceperson, preferably within the heavy transport/equipment industry
5+ years experience working within a mechanical workshop/field environment
Have a valid Australian Driver’s License (HR/HC/MC license highly regarded)
Strong knowledge of servicing
Basic knowledge of mechanical repairs (strong desire to learn)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
High levels of initiative and flexible approach to work
A strong commitment to safety, with attention to detail and adherence to safety procedures
