Disability Support Worker – Holistic Health and Complex Support

Independent Contractor Role | Competitive Hourly Rate + Superannuation Paid on Top

Wellness Waves Support Services is looking for an experienced, compassionate Support Worker who values holistic health, wellbeing and person-centred care, while also being confident supporting participants with complex behaviours and personal care needs.

This is an independent contractor position, with superannuation paid on top of your agreed hourly rate.

We are looking for someone who understands that great support goes beyond completing tasks. It is about supporting the whole person — their physical health, emotional wellbeing, independence, routines, relationships and overall quality of life.

About the Role

You will provide one-on-one support to NDIS participants across the Sunshine Coast, helping them build independence, maintain meaningful routines and feel safe, supported and empowered in their daily lives.

Your shifts may include:

• Personal care, including showering, dressing, toileting and hygiene support

• Supporting participants with complex behaviours and emotional regulation

• Following Behaviour Support Plans and established support strategies

• De-escalation and remaining calm during challenging situations

• Community access and social participation

• Supporting appointments, shopping and everyday activities

• Meal preparation and healthy lifestyle support

• Encouraging movement, exercise and meaningful activities

• Supporting routines and general wellbeing

• Medication support in line with participant plans and procedures

• Building independence and everyday living skills

• Completing accurate shift notes, incident reports and documentation

• Working collaboratively with participants, families, management and allied health professionals

Who We're Looking For

We are particularly interested in Support Workers who genuinely value a holistic approach to health and wellbeing.

You may have an interest, qualification or background in areas such as:

• Fitness, exercise or movement

• Mental health and emotional wellbeing

• Nutrition and healthy lifestyle habits

• Mindfulness, yoga, meditation or breathwork

• Psychology or counselling

• Behavioural support

• Community health or disability support

At the same time, this role requires someone with real confidence and experience supporting complex needs.

You should be comfortable supporting participants who may experience:

• Complex or challenging behaviours

• Emotional dysregulation

• Autism and neurodivergence

• Mental health challenges

• Trauma-related behaviours

• Communication difficulties

• High support needs

• Personal care requirements

You need to be someone who can remain calm, grounded and professional under pressure, while maintaining dignity, respect and participant choice.

Contractor Arrangement

This position is offered on an independent contractor basis.

Contractors are paid an agreed hourly contractor rate, with superannuation paid on top of that rate.

As a contractor, you will need to:

• Hold a current ABN

• Maintain appropriate Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance

• Manage your own tax obligations

• Maintain all required screening checks and qualifications

• Provide invoices in accordance with Wellness Waves processes

Essential Requirements

Applicants should have, or be willing to obtain:

• NDIS Worker Screening Check

• Working with Children / Blue Card where applicable

• Current First Aid and CPR

• Current Australian driver's licence

• Reliable and appropriately insured vehicle

• Relevant disability or community services experience

• Experience supporting complex behaviours

• Experience providing personal care

• Ability to complete clear and accurate documentation

• Ability to use a smartphone for rostering, communication and shift reporting

A Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, Mental Health, Community Services or similar is highly regarded.
