About the role

Boatshed Market is seeking an experienced and skilled Butcher to join our team on a full-time basis at our Cottesloe, WA location. This is a hands-on role that sits at the heart of our business, where you will be responsible for preparing, processing, and presenting high-quality meat products to our customers. As a key member of our Butchery team, you will play an essential role in maintaining our reputation for excellence and customer satisfaction in the local community.

Key responsibilities

• Selecting, cutting, trimming and boning meat to specific customer requirements and market standards

• Operating and maintaining butchery equipment, including saws, grinders, and slicers, in a safe and hygienic manner

• Preparing meat products for display and ensuring attractive presentation in the retail counter

• Maintaining strict hygiene and food safety standards in accordance with relevant legislation and company policies

• Providing expert advice and recommendations to customers regarding meat selection and preparation methods

• Training and supervising junior staff members as required

• Ensuring the butchery area remains clean, organised and compliant with health and safety regulations

• Contributing to the overall success of the business through exceptional customer service and product quality

What we're looking for

• Recognised apprenticeship or formal qualification in butchery or equivalent hands-on experience

• Proven experience working as a butcher in a retail or commercial environment

• Proficiency in operating standard butchery equipment and tools safely and effectively

• Strong knowledge of meat cuts, grades, and preparation techniques

• Current food safety and hygiene certification or willingness to obtain it

• Excellent knife skills and attention to detail in product preparation

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment whilst maintaining quality standards

• Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to build rapport with clients

• Reliability and a professional approach to timekeeping and attendance
