Primary objective
Ensure delivery of high quality, culturally appropriate and effective echocardiography services whilst providing clinical leadership and
supervision to Allied Health Professionals within NT Health.
Context statement
NT Health provides integrated allied health services in a variety of service settings including acute and sub-acute care, primary health care,
aged care and mental health. Currently seeking applicants in the following areas: Cardiac Sonography. This position will require the
applicant to work within an extended hours service model, which may include weekends (as applicable).
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide timely, clinically and culturally appropriate echocardiography services within a multidisciplinary framework.
2. Independently perform and issue preliminary reports for cardiac ultrasounds. Liaise with Cardiologists, appropriate hospital staff and
/ or medical officers to clarify request details or to ascertain relevant clinical history to ensure the most appropriate examination is
performed
3. Provide a supervisory function to trainee Sonographers and Medical Officers ensuring adherence to safe work practices, following
departmental guidelines and policies.
4. Independently organise and manage a high-volume complex workload within a dynamic and evolving work environment to ensure
timelines and health outcomes are met.
5. Initiate, implement and complete research, continuous quality improvement and service development activities at a local or regional
level to ensure delivery of contemporary echocardiography services.
6. Lead and/or monitor the achievement of work unit goals and key performance indicators
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in
order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Graduate Diploma in Cardiac Ultrasound or Diploma of Medical Ultrasound (Cardiac) or recognised equivalent and able to be
accredited with the Australian Sonographer’s Accreditation Registry (ASAR).
2. Demonstrated ability to independently perform full Transthoracic Echocardiograms, Stress Echocardiograms and Dobutamine Stress
Echocardiograms.
3. Demonstrated awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture and proven experience in working effectively with patients and
families/carers of diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
4. Proven high level communication and interpersonal skills, including well developed negotiation and conflict management skills, with
significant experience working in a team environment to achieve positive health outcomes.
5. Proven ability to initiate, implement and complete continuous quality improvement and service development activities.
6. Proven ability to efficiently and effectively organise and manage a high volume complex workload.
7. Demonstrated high level leadership skills with capacity to provide leadership in a team environment.
Desirable
1. Experience in Paediatric echocardiograms
2. Experience working in a Tertiary level centre and/or remote outreach programs.
