About the role
Company Description: The Boatshed is dedicated to expanding access to sailing for people of all backgrounds and abilities. Working in partnership with sailing clubs across Victoria, The Boatshed supports and complements club-based training programs rather than competing with them. With a large fleet of boats and a team of experienced instructors, the organization offers training and experiences that many clubs may not have the capacity to provide. The Boatshed’s mission is to help as many people as possible experience sailing, build their skills, and progress into active membership at local sailing clubs.
Role Description: Being a Sailing Instructor is a casual, on-site role based at Albert Park, In this role you will deliver high-quality sailing lessons and programs to individuals and groups, ensuring safe, engaging, and skill-appropriate on-water and shore-based activities. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and delivering training sessions, briefing and debriefing participants, managing equipment and boats, and maintaining high safety standards in accordance with Australian Sailing guidelines. The Instructors will provide clear communication and coaching, support participants in developing confidence and skills, and collaborate with other team members to coordinate schedules, events, and special programs. Additional duties may include assisting with fleet maintenance, reporting on participant progress, and contributing to continuous improvement of training materials and methods.QualificationsStrong technical skills in Sailing and Powerboats, able to demonstrate practical experience on a variety of small boats. Sailing Instruction and Training experience is strongly preferred.Effective Communication skills, with the ability to explain concepts clearly, provide constructive feedback, and engage participants in a positive learning environment.Relevant instructor accreditations (e.g., Australian Sailing instructor qualifications) and current first aid/CPR certification and Powerboat handling or willingness to obtain them.Commitment to safety, risk management, and adherence to organizational and regulatory standards on and off the water.Ability to work collaboratively in a team, manage time effectively, and adapt instruction to varying weather, group dynamics, and participant needs.Availability to work across weekdays, weekends, and peak program periods as required.
