Casual Overnight Awake Disability Support Worker – Accommodation ServicesAbout the Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for an energetic and experienced individual to join the North West team at Inala.

We are seeking enthusiastic candidates to work in a solo overnight awake role, providing person-centred support in the home environment. You will be responsible for supporting the overall needs, routines, and preferences of residents during the night — promoting their independence, autonomy, and quality of life. This includes respecting cultural choices and assisting in the implementation of meaningful, individualised experiences.
We are seeking candidates with demonstrated experience in:
Manual handling
Complex behaviour support, including the ability to understand and implement multi-stage protocols
Catheter care
Epilepsy management
Complex bowel care
The ideal candidate will possess a calm yet confident approach to effectively support individuals with complex behaviours and respond appropriately to medical emergencies.
In addition to meeting the essential criteria listed in this advertisement, the successful candidate must also demonstrate the ability to:
Apply a high level of situational awareness to prevent, manage, and respond to behaviours effectively
Adapt quickly to sudden changes in routine, showing flexibility in working both independently and as part of a team
Take initiative and maintain strong attention to detail across all areas of support
Work collaboratively and communicate closely within a well-established team to ensure accurate monitoring, documentation, and escalation of health and behavioural concerns
Communicate clearly and professionally — both verbally and in writing — with residents, families, and all relevant stakeholders
Contribute to a fun, high-performing, and family-friendly team environment
Sunday to Thursday: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
Friday & Saturday: 10:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Responsibilities (Overnight Awake Role)
Provide support that ensures the physical, emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing of clients throughout the night
Assist with personal care needs as required during overnight hours
Administer medications in accordance with Inala’s medication administration procedures, including PRN medications when applicable
Deliver person-centred support, respecting each client's individual preferences and routines
Be sensitive to the specific and cultural needs of each client
Maintain accurate overnight progress notes detailing support provided and any changes in health or behaviour
Support a safe, calm, and homely environment overnight
Perform cleaning and household duties as needed during the shift
Complete all required reporting and documentation in line with Inala’s procedures
Communicate respectfully and professionally with clients, families, team members, and other stakeholders
Certificate III or higher in Disability, Community Services, or equivalent
Experience supporting participants with complex needs, including intellectual disabilities and challenging behaviours
Understanding of, and ability to follow, individual Support Plans
Commitment to Inala’s human-centred ethos and approach
Full working rights in Australia
Fully vaccinated against COVID-19
Valid Australian driver’s licence (with ability to drive, or willingness to learn to drive, a wheelchair-accessible vehicle)
Current First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain)
NDIS Worker Clearance (or willingness to obtain)
