About the Department / Program

Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a formal partnership to deliver a Shared Pathology Service as one of three new pathology networks for metropolitan Melbourne. All roles in the Pathology Programs are working to develop the Partnership and ensure we continue to provide high quality care for the patients across the health services.

Monash Health Pathology is an integral part of Monash Health. It is the largest public provider of Pathology services in the state and currently operates 6 laboratories. The largest of these is located at the Monash Medical Centre, Clayton, with additional laboratories located at the Dandenong, Moorabbin, Casey, Victorian Heart Hospital and Wonthaggi Hospitals. There are currently 18 collection locations based within the hospital sites and community settings. Services are provided to the Public and Private sectors, and other laboratory services.

About the Role

We are currently seeking a highly motivated, experienced and dedicated Medical Scientist Grade 2 with a minimum of 5 years’ experience as Grade 1, with core laboratory training. This includes Haematology, Chemical Pathology and transfusion. Morphology training is highly desirable. To join the multi-disciplinary core laboratory at Victorian Heart Hospital. The laboratory offers a 24 hour service and the successful applicant will be required to participate in shift and on call work. This is an ongoing Part Time 0.7 EFT.

Keys Responsibilities

• Performs all the duties of a Grade II Medical Scientist and under general direction of the Grade 3 staff, carries out tests, investigations and troubleshooting of a complex nature. In addition, is capable of instructing and training other staff in the correct operation of analytical equipment and procedures.
• The successful applicant will be required to deputise for the supervisor in their absence, as requested or by interim appointment

Experience & Requirement

• The laboratory operates 24/7, requiring rostered rotational shifts and participation in on-call duties.
• The 4 week roster rotations include 2 weeks of day shift, 1 week of evening shift and 1 week of night shift. When deputising the set roster pattern may change.
• Attention to detail with good interpretation skills in the reviewing internal and external QC, troubleshooting and good verbal and written communication is required.

About You

The successful applicant will have a Degree in Applied Science (MLS) or recognised equivalent with experience in a multi-disciplinary laboratory. Evidence of ongoing commitment to professional development is highly desirable.
