About the role
Position Purpose
The Senior Accounts / Bookkeeper & Finance Lead is responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial administration of e Fire and Safety Pty Ltd, ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately, records are maintained and key accounting obligations are completed within required timeframes.
This is a hands-on role covering accounts payable, overseeing accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, reporting and general bookkeeping. The position will work closely with Directors and external accountant, providing accurate financial information and supporting the smooth and efficient operation of the finance department.
Key Responsibilities
1. Accounts Payable & Receivable
· Process supplier invoices in MYOB accurately and efficiently, ensuring appropriate approvals are obtained.
· Prepare and process supplier payment runs in line with agreed payment terms.
· Monitor and oversee accounts receivable processes.
· Reconcile supplier statements and resolve invoice queries.
· Respond to supplier and customer enquiries relating to accounts.
· Assisting with month-end and year-end financial close processes
· Maintain accurate records of outstanding creditors and debtors.
· Assist with payment schedules and expense reporting.
2. Payroll & Superannuation
· Process weekly payroll for employees, ensuring accurate processing of hours, allowances, overtime, leave and other entitlements.
· Maintain accurate employee payroll records, including new starters, terminations and changes to employment conditions.
· Process and reconcile superannuation payments within statutory deadlines.
· Process payroll-related deductions and other employee payments where applicable.
· Respond to employee payroll queries and resolve issues promptly.
· Ensure payroll processing complies with relevant legislation, awards and company procedures.
3. Bookkeeping & General Accounting
· Maintain accurate financial records and general ledger accounts.
· Process and verify accounting transactions and supporting documentation.
· Complete regular bank, credit card and other account reconciliations.
· Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies.
· Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation records.
· Assist with accruals, prepayments and other month-end adjustments.
· Assist with month-end and year-end financial close processes.
· Maintain organised and comprehensive financial filing systems.
4. Financial Reporting & Management Support
· Prepare regular financial reports and information for the General Manager and Directors.
· Assist with the preparation of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow reports.
· Provide accurate financial information to assist management with business decisions.
· Assist with budgeting, cash flow monitoring and forecasting.
· Provide financial information and reports to relevant departments as required.
· Assist with job or project costing and profitability reporting where required.
5. Systems & Process Improvement
· Maintain the company’s accounting software, including MYOB, ensuring information is accurate and up to date.
· Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems and internal controls.
· Assist with implementing more efficient and effective finance processes.
· Ensure appropriate financial controls are followed across the business.
6. Team Support
· Provide day-to-day guidance and support to team members undertaking accounts and administration duties.
· Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure financial processes run smoothly.
7. General Finance & Administration
· Maintain confidentiality of all financial, payroll and employee information.
· Ensure accounting records are accurate, complete and maintained in a timely manner.
· Assist with ad-hoc financial analysis, reporting and administrative tasks as required.
· Support the General Manager and Directors with finance-related requests.
· Contribute to a professional, organised and positive finance team.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking an experienced and reliable accounting professional who enjoys a hands-on role and is confident managing a broad range of bookkeeping and finance responsibilities.
The successful candidate will have:
· Proven experience in a Senior Bookkeeper, Senior Accounts Officer, Accounts Officer or similar role.
· Strong practical experience across accounts payable, accounts receivable and general bookkeeping.
· Previous payroll processing & MYOB experience is essential.
· Sound understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
· Experience with bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
· Experience assisting with BAS, GST, PAYG and other statutory requirements.
· High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
· Strong organisational and time management skills.
· Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a team.
· Confidence communicating with employees, customers, suppliers, management and external accountants.
· Relevant accounting, bookeeping or AAT qualifications will be advantageous.
