The Role

As the Education Assistant – Lead, you would lead, mentor, coach and model evidence-based practices for Education Assistants across the school. As a valued leader, you will work closely with the Leadership Team to support the effective development and coordination of the Education Assistant workforce, providing advice and feedback where appropriate.

You will play an important role in the induction, training and ongoing professional development of Education Assistants. This would include providing coaching, guidance and practical support to Education Assistants and Special Needs Education Assistants to strengthen their practice and enhance support for students with diverse learning needs.

Key responsibilities may include:

• leading, mentoring and coaching Education Assistants and modelling effective professional practice.
• building the capacity of Education Assistants to provide high-quality, evidence-based support for the school’s significant cohort of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well as students with other disabilities and diverse learning needs.
• assisting with the induction and training of new Education Assistants, ensuring they understand school procedures, professional expectations and student-support processes.
• facilitating effective communication and collaboration between Education Assistants, teachers and members of the Leadership Team.
• contributing to the development and implementation of documented plans, including individual education, behaviour support and student support plans.
• providing practical advice, strategies and solutions that promote positive student behaviour, engagement, regulation and improved educational outcomes.
• working collaboratively with teachers and other Education Assistants to strengthen student care, intervention and learning programs.
• supporting the collection, coordination and reporting of relevant student data to assist with the monitoring and evaluation of programs.
• assist Education Assistants in supporting students with diverse learning needs to contribute and/or participate in whole school processes and strategies, enabling them to thrive at school.

The successful applicant will ideally be highly professional, organised and collaborative, with well-developed communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. They should be able to build and maintain respectful and productive relationships with Education Assistants, teachers, school leaders, families, community members and relevant external professionals and agencies.

The successful applicant should display initiative, sound professional judgement and the ability to promote consistent, evidence-based practices across the Education Assistant team. They should also be committed to building the capacity and confidence of others and contributing positively to a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement and high expectations.

3. Demonstrated well developed written communication skills, including report writing, and the ability to coordinate, collect and present student data at a whole school community level in a meaningful way.
