About the role
Safety Program Coordinator
The incumbent serves as the Safety Program Coordinator, responsible for assisting the Post Occupational Safety and Health Officer in carrying out the day-to-day functions of the post's safety, health, environmental, and fire protection programs. The incumbent helps ensure that all government-owned and leased property meets required safety standards, and supports compliance through safety surveys, inspection reports, and follow-up inspections. The role also includes providing safety training in line with program requirements and performing related administrative duties.
Duties
Inspections
Conducts regular safety, health, and fire inspections of government facilities to identify and address hazards. Prepares reports, recommends fixes, and tracks issues through to resolution.
Incident Investigation
Investigates incidents such as fires, injuries, and accidents to determine causes and prevent recurrence. Tracks trends and maintains related records.
Training
Delivers safety training to staff and families, covering workplace safety, home hazards, and fire/life safety procedures.
Safety Equipment & Supplies
Manages inventory of protective equipment, safety gear, and chemical safety data sheets. Drives a government vehicle as needed.
APPLICANTS MUST MEET EITHER OPTION 1 OR OPTION 2 TO QUALIFY:
OPTION 1:
Experience:
Three years of full-time experience in the maintenance or construction field performing repair work as a maintenance supervisor or team lead or in the field of occupational safety as a safety inspector or quality control assurance inspector is required.
Education Requirements:
Two years post-Secondary studies at the College/University level or a two-year Vocational training in facilities management, environmental safety, construction, engineering, or architecture is required.
OR
OPTION 2
Experience:
Five years of full-time experience in the maintenance or construction field performing repair work as a maintenance supervisor or team lead or in the field of occupational safety as a safety inspector or quality control assurance inspector is required.
Education Requirements:
Completion of Secondary School is required.
In addition to Option 1 and Option 2:
Language:
Fluent English; written/spoken, may include the ability to translate is required.
Skills and Abilities:
Must have a current and valid driver's license held for a minimum of 5 years.
Must possess good written and oral skills to develop and conduct safety briefings and presentations on safety related topics, as well as provide routine daily communication on occupational safety related information.
Job Knowledge:
A good understanding of local occupational safety and health regulations is required.
