About the Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to lead a highly regarded youth mental health service and play a highly influential role in the health and wellbeing of young people across the Adelaide Hills.

As Centre Manager for headspace Mount Barker, you will have an excellent opportunity to take ownership of the leadership and operations of a busy, multidisciplinary service supporting young people across mental health, physical health, alcohol and other drugs, with a range of amazing targeted programs and support services.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will have the scope to lead, influence and shape the ongoing success of headspace Mount Barker, coupled with keeping your people, quality and the right outcomes at the heart of everything you do!

• Lead and inspire a talented multidisciplinary team providing clear direction and continuing to drive and foster a welcoming, supportive and collaborative culture where people feel connected and enjoy coming to work.
• Provide strong people and HR leadership by supporting your team across engagement, development, performance and workforce matters, while empowering them to do their best work, creating a strong sense of shared purpose.
• Take ownership of the Centre’s operations by maintaining oversight of service delivery, contracts, funded programs, budgets and resources to ensure the Centre continues to perform effectively and sustainably.
• Turn data and outcomes into meaningful insights by overseeing and preparing the Centre’s reporting requirements and ensuring the criteria and obligations attached to different funding streams are understood and delivered accurately and on time.
• Be a visible and trusted voice in building strong relationships with government, funders, primary care, non-government and community organisations to strengthen connections, referral pathways and outcomes for young people, while coordinating the headspace consortium.
• Keep quality, risk and compliance front of mind while looking for practical ways to continuously improve how the Centre operates and delivers its services.
• Bring a strategic and commercially aware mindset by identifying opportunities to strengthen the Centre through partnerships, grants, tenders and service development, while always keeping community outcomes at the heart of decision-making.

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Qualifications in either Mental Health Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy or similar would be highly advantageous, however not essential.
• Significant experience working within mental health, community health, AOD, primary care or a related environment. Supporting young people is highly regarded, however experience across any age will be considered.
• Strong knowledge of the Australian health system.
• Proven leadership and people management experience, ideally within a multidisciplinary environment, with the ability to inspire, develop and show empathy.
• Demonstrated HR leadership capability, with experience across performance, development, recruitment and broader workforce matters, and the confidence to navigate complex people conversations when needed.
• Strong time & operational management skills, with the ability to balance people, programs, contracts, resources and competing priorities while maintaining a calm and disciplined approach.
• Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with internal teams, community partners and funders presenting as warm, approachable and engaging.
• Experience managing government-funded programs, with a sound understanding of contractual obligations, compliance requirements, funding criteria and the accountability that comes with delivering services within defined funding frameworks.
• Strong reporting and analytical capability, with the ability to interpret service data, measure outcomes and translate information into meaningful insights that support decision-making and continuous improvement.
• A commitment to ethics, confidentiality, and mandatory notification obligations.
• A valid Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain.
