The Opportunity
Join an exciting research program as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, investigating how digital e-auctions can improve agricultural market performance in Lao PDR and Cambodia. You will contribute to the design and empirical evaluation of a large-scale field experiment, including household, market and value-chain surveys, quantitative analysis, and the development, testing and implementation of a digital e-auction platform.
Working closely with research partners across Australia, Lao PDR and Cambodia, you will play an active role in coordinating field research, managing and integrating survey, market and platform data, and contributing to high-quality academic and policy outputs. The role provides an opportunity to work at the intersection of economics, agricultural markets and digital technology, with extended periods of international fieldwork.
About You
As the successful candidate, you will hold a PhD in economics, agricultural economics or a closely related discipline, with strong quantitative and econometric skills and experience using statistical software such as Stata, R or Python. You will bring demonstrated experience in empirical research, survey design or implementation, data analysis and research publication, together with the ability to work independently and coordinate complex field-based research activities.
Experience working with technology-enabled interventions or digital platforms, or combining survey data with administrative, transactional or digital-platform data, will be highly regarded. Knowledge of Lao PDR or Cambodia, previous fieldwork experience in Southeast Asia, or knowledge of Lao or Khmer will also be desirable, alongside strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with international research partners and diverse stakeholders.
