Crushing & Screening Technical Lead - Product Support

About the role

The Crushing & Screening Technical Lead - Product Support is the senior hands-on technical resource for Vertu Equipment's SANY crushing and screening product line. The role combines advanced commissioning, service and repair work with day-to-day technical leadership. It is predominantly field and workshop based, with the majority of time spent on technical work and a smaller proportion on leadership, customer and product-support activities. The person appointed will set the technical standard for the product line — how machines are commissioned, how customers are trained, how faults are diagnosed and escalated, and how service work is documented — at a point where those standards do not yet exist.

Key responsibilities

• Complete pre-delivery inspection on every crushing and screening unit prior to release, against SANY and Vertu standards

• Assemble, set up and commission tracked plant on customer sites, including chamber configuration, closed side setting, drive alignment, conveyor tracking, hydraulic and lubrication system verification, and control system setup

• Verify machine performance against specification at handover and document commissioning results

• Deliver operator and maintenance handover training to customer crews, covering safe operation, daily checks, isolation, wear inspection and correct feed practice

• Carry out scheduled servicing and repair work, both in the field and in the workshop

• Diagnose faults across diesel engines, hydraulic circuits, electrical systems, machine control and PLC systems, conveyor and drive assemblies

• Replace wear components to manufacturer tolerance — jaw dies, blow bars, mantles and concaves, screen media, conveyor belting, liners and skirting

• Attend breakdowns within agreed response times, with a bias toward first-time fix and minimum customer downtime

• Undertake hydraulic, electrical and structural repairs, and coordinate specialist trades where work falls outside Vertu's scope

• Allocate and sequence daily work across crushing and screening technicians and apprentices, in conjunction with the Service Manager

• Set and hold the technical standard for workmanship, machine presentation and job completion

• Review completed work, check job cards for accuracy and sign off quality before machines return to service

• Mentor apprentices and less experienced technicians through structured on-the-job training

• Run pre-start and toolbox meetings on site, and coordinate with the customer's site supervisor on access, isolation, plant movements and traffic management

• Contribute to labour planning, workshop scheduling and the selection of additional technicians as the team grows

• Act as the first technical point of contact for crushing and screening customers on machine performance, application setup and maintenance practice

• Advise customers on chamber selection, wear part choice and configuration changes to suit their material, throughput and product specification

• Conduct machine health inspections and issue written reports with prioritised, costed recommendations

• Identify and specify correct parts from SANY documentation and raise accurate parts requests

• Provide technical input into field service vehicle and consignment stock requirements, and support wear part forecasting by machine, application and operating hours

About you

• Trade qualification in heavy diesel fitting, mobile plant technology, plant mechanics or fitting and turning (Certificate III or equivalent)

• Three plus years experience on heavy mobile plant or closely comparable field-service equipment

• Demonstrated hydraulic and electrical fault-finding capability on complex mobile plant

• Practical experience with complex mobile plant maintenance and repair

• Proven ability to work unsupervised on customer sites in quarry, civil, mining and recycling environments

• Good written communication for job cards, service reports and warranty documentation

• Current Australian driver's licence

• Methodical and diagnostic rather than parts-swapping in approach to fault-finding, with the ability to learn new equipment quickly

• Comfortable being the technical authority on a product that is new to the market, including when the answer is not yet documented

• Direct and credible with customers, particularly under production pressure
