Part-Time Cook / Chef (Indian Cuisine)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Part-Time Cook/Chef to join our kitchen team.

This position offers approximately 20 hours per week, with evening shifts from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm, five days per week with flexible roster. Additional hours may be available during busy periods, functions, and public holidays.

You will be responsible for preparing high-quality Indian dishes while maintaining excellent food safety and hygiene standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook authentic Indian dishes to a consistently high standard.
• Prepare and cook tandoori items including naan breads, kebabs, and marinated meats using a traditional tandoor.
• Assist with food preparation and mise en place before service.
• Maintain high standards of presentation and portion control.
• Follow HACCP food safety procedures and maintain a clean, organised kitchen.
• Monitor stock rotation, minimise food waste, and ensure proper storage of ingredients.
• Work efficiently during busy service periods while maintaining quality.
• Assist with cleaning and closing duties at the end of each shift.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Previous experience as a Cook or Chef in an Indian restaurant.
• Sound knowledge of authentic Indian cooking techniques and spices.
• Experience operating a tandoor oven.
• Good understanding of HACCP principles and food safety regulations.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently and within a team.
• Full Australian working rights.

Desirable

• Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery.
• Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
• Experience with stock control and ordering.
