About the role
We’re on the lookout for an experienced chef to join the Commonfolk crew.
With our established cafes in Mornington and Frankston, alongside our neighbourhood wine bar, there are exciting opportunities to become part of a growing hospitality group.
If you thrive in busy, fast-paced kitchens, take pride in producing exceptional food, and are passionate about helping take our cafe offering to the next level, we’d love to hear from you.
Working with the Commonfolk Group, you’ll enjoy:
Flexible working hours
Competitive remuneration
Support from an experienced team
A positive, inclusive culture
So what’s the catch?
There isn’t one. At Commonfolk, we genuinely care about our team. Our people have families, passions, and lives outside work, and we value them as individuals not just employees. Not only do we pay well, we pay correctly (you won’t need to chase your superannuation with us), and we don’t expect overtime as standard.
Who is Commonfolk?
The Commonfolk Group is an established coffee roaster, beverage manufacturer, and hospitality group based in Mornington (one hour south of Melbourne), with venues in Mornington and Frankston.
We’ve been trading for over 13 years and have developed a reputation as an industry leader on the Peninsula, Bayside, and beyond. We strive to serve food that brings our customers back time and again. Food worth traveling for, food that has people genuinely saying, “that was the best meal I’ve ever had.”
The ideal applicant will demonstrate
Experience in prep-focused roles within high-volume kitchen environments
Ability to work efficiently and systematically through task lists
Strong organisational and time management skills
Flexibility to occasionally assist with à la carte service as required
Strict adherence to cost and stock control
Meticulous adherence to food safety regulations
An understanding of the hospitality industry in Australia
This is a multifaceted role that spans multiple venues and kitchen environments. From high-volume cafe service and wine bar dining to production kitchen prep and catering support, no two days are the same. We’re looking for someone with broad kitchen experience, a willingness to adapt, and the eagerness to wear many hats. The ability to move confidently between different styles of service and contribute wherever needed is essential.
We pay our chefs annualised salaries above award rate dependant on their position / experience [commis, chef de partie, sous etc].
If you’re self-motivated, hardworking, and have a genuine passion for food, we would love to hear from you.
