Long Distance Driver

About the role

Rugby Transport Pty Ltd is seeking Long Distance Drivers to join our team on a casual basis. This role is based in Gatton QLD 4343 and offers the opportunity to work independently whilst operating heavy vehicles across long-distance routes. As a Long Distance Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting our produce and other goods across extended distances, maintaining vehicle standards, and ensuring timely delivery of freight. This position is integral to our logistics operations and directly supports our commitment to reliable and professional transport services.

Key responsibilities

• Operating heavy vehicles safely and efficiently on long-distance routes in accordance with all relevant traffic laws and regulations

• Planning and executing delivery routes whilst adhering to strict scheduling requirements and delivery deadlines

• Conducting pre-journey and post-journey vehicle inspections to ensure the vehicle is in safe working order

• Maintaining accurate logbooks and documentation, including delivery dockets

• Loading and securing cargo safely to prevent damage and ensure compliance with weight distribution regulations

• Communicating effectively with Operations and customers regarding delivery status and any issues that arise

• Adhering to fatigue management regulations and ensuring appropriate rest breaks are taken during long journeys

• Maintaining a professional appearance and providing courteous service to customers upon delivery

• Reporting any vehicle defects, accidents or safety concerns promptly to management

What we're looking for

• A current valid HC or MC driver's licence with an appropriate medical is essential

• Demonstrated experience as a long-distance driver, preferably in the express freight industry

• Strong knowledge of road safety regulations, fatigue management laws and heavy vehicle compliance requirements

• Excellent time management and route planning skills

• Ability to work independently whilst maintaining high standards of safety and professionalism

• Good communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with team members and customers

• Reliable and punctual with a strong commitment to delivering on time

• Physical fitness and ability to perform light manual duties including loading and securing cargo

• A satisfactory driving record and commitment to safe driving practices

• Familiarity with long-distance routes across Queensland and Australia is advantageous
