Role Description The Excavator Operator and Trade Assistant is a full-time hybrid role based in Toowoomba, QLD, with some work-from-home tasks possible depending on project needs. Day-to-day, the role involves operating excavators and related plant to support electrical infrastructure works, including trenching, backfilling, and site preparation for overhead and underground networks. The role also includes assisting qualified tradespeople with installations, maintenance, and repairs, handling tools and materials, and performing basic labouring duties. The Excavator Operator and Trade Assistant is expected to follow site safety procedures, participate in pre-starts and toolbox talks, complete simple documentation and reports, and coordinate with supervisors and field teams to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and safely.
QualificationsDemonstrated experience safely operating excavators and earthmoving equipment on construction or utility sites.Ability to support trades with basic electrical or civil tasks, including use of hand and power tools and general labouring.Strong awareness of work health and safety practices, including adherence to site procedures, PPE requirements, and risk controls.Basic literacy and numeracy skills to complete job sheets, site reports, and equipment checklists accurately.Good communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with supervisors, trades, and project teams.Valid driver’s licence; HR or MR licence and experience transporting equipment are highly regarded.Relevant plant operator tickets and industry certifications (e.g., excavator ticket, white card)Experience in electrical infrastructure, utilities, or construction environments in regional or remote settings is an advantage.
