Underwriting Assistant

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an organised and proactive professional to join our Underwriting team as an Underwriting Assistant. Supporting a team of six underwriters across property, liability, motor, construction and workers compensation portfolios, you'll play an important role in helping underwriting operations run smoothly while developing valuable industry experience.

We're looking for someone with strong potential, curiosity and a willingness to learn. Whether you're currently working as an Assistant Underwriter, Underwriting Support Officer, Junior Broker or in a similar insurance-based role, this position offers a genuine pathway into underwriting and a rewarding career.

What You'll Be Doing

As an Underwriting Assistant, you will:

• Support underwriters by preparing, reviewing and maintaining underwriting documentation, policy records and reports.
• Coordinate annual declaration and invoicing processes, including support for large project renewals and one-off project activities.
• Monitor underwriting activities, track applications and follow up on outstanding actions to ensure timely outcomes.
• Generate and maintain regular reports using Excel and other Microsoft 365 applications.
• Provide administrative and operational support across a diverse range of underwriting activities and portfolios.
• Investigate and resolve enquiries by gathering information, identifying issues and recommending solutions.
• Assist with process improvements, projects, audits and underwriting reviews that enhance customer and scheme outcomes.
• Build strong working relationships across the business while supporting accurate, compliant and efficient underwriting practices.

Skills & Experience

We're interested in your potential, problem-solving ability and organisation skills as much as your experience. You'll bring:

• Experience in insurance, underwriting, broking or a related industry.
• Experience working in a high-volume operational environment supporting multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
• Intermediate Microsoft 365 skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong time management skills, with the ability to balance and prioritise a varied workload.
• A proactive and solutions-focused approach, with the confidence to work autonomously when needed.
• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• A willingness to learn, adapt and develop a long-term career in underwriting.
