Female Staff Worker

FOCUS Military Ministry is seeking expressions of interest for a trained ministry worker to join the team serving in gospel ministry at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) in Canberra. FOCUS is a non-profit evangelical ministry which employs and supports staff to lead ministry activities on ADF training bases, with the vision that every person joining the ADF has the opportunity to know the Lord Jesus Christ. ADFA is the prime training base for career officers in the ADF. Trainee Officers (TOs) spend three or four years at ADFA completing military training and a UNSW bachelor degree. The unique combination of tertiary studies and military training provides incredible openness and opportunities for the gospel to be held out to the young men and women who will be leaders in our Defence Force.

FOCUS is able to connect with these TOs via FOCUS activities on and off base. We operate with the oversight of military chaplains and in partnership with like-minded military ministries and local churches. FOCUS at ADFA is an affiliate group with the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students (AFES).

Currently, we employ one full-time and three part-time staff for ministry at ADFA. We are seeking to grow this team by employing a second full-time trained ministry worker, with a particular focus on ministering to the female Trainee Officers.

Roles and responsibilities flow from the FOCUS strategy (engaging, proclaiming, equipping and connecting). Regular activities include:

• Sharing the gospel in one-to-one and small group conversations
• Writing and leading Bible studies and ministry training courses
• Mentoring TOs and integrating them into local churches
• Assisting on camps and conferences
• Growing prayer and financial partnerships with churches and individuals
