Director, Assessment Policy and Strategy

The Director, Assessment Policy and Strategy is responsible for leading strategic assessment initiatives that transform the educational landscape for children and young people - from early childhood through to senior secondary education - and the educators that support them.

About the Department 

The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

About the Role

The Director reports to the Executive Director, Assessment. This role is a key member the VCAA's leadership team and contributes to whole-of-organisation leadership. 

The Director will be accountable for leading strategy and policy development for assessment and providing evidence-based advice. The successful applicant will be responsible for a dynamic, responsive and cross-functional team, who will provide advice, analysis and stakeholder engagement to enable the achievement of strategic objectives. 

The Director Assessment Strategy and Coordination is expected to:

• Oversee the development of assessment policy and lead digital assessment delivery, including strategic educational measurement advice
• Provide advice,support and guidance for best practice assessment to inform teaching and learning in Victorian classrooms.
• Work collaboratively with the other directors in Assessment Division and across the organisation in providing strategy expertise and coordination of assessment development activities across the division
• Lead the implementation of improvements, including those aligned with the recommendations of various reviews and feedback from the independent monitor.
• Lead the operationalisation of the VCAA Strategic Plan and contributes to a positive and high-performing team culture, while maintaining a strong focus on quality assurance, project delivery, and continuous improvement
• Manage a broad spectrum of relationships and partnerships within a highly complex multi-stakeholder environment and building the capability and capacity of others to manage these relationships
• Contribute to the overall success of the VCAA's work, going beyond their own functions to support their staff, colleagues and our Board while aligning and coordinating work across divisions

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

• Essential: Strong leadership and change management experience; Tertiary degree in a relevant field
• Desirable: Experience in managing complex and/or innovative projects
