The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available for two Public Health Registrars to join the Disease Elimination Program at Burnet!

These accredited registrar training positions offer the opportunity to undertake the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM) Advanced Training Program within one of Australia's leading medical research and public health institutes.

Working alongside experienced public health physicians, researchers and multidisciplinary teams, you will gain practical experience across a broad range of public health activities including epidemiology, infectious diseases, implementation research, policy development, health program design and evaluation. The program is designed to develop the next generation of public health leaders while providing opportunities to contribute to research and projects that improve health outcomes in Australia and across the Asia-Pacific region.

You will also:

• Undertake accredited advanced training in Public Health Medicine within a highly supportive and multidisciplinary environment.
• Contribute to innovative public health research, program implementation and policy development projects.
• Work alongside experienced AFPHM Fellows, researchers and public health leaders across a range of national and international health initiatives.
• Develop skills in epidemiology, public health practice, implementation research and health systems strengthening.
• Participate in a tailored training program that aligns with your learning objectives, interests and AFPHM Advanced Training requirements.

This is a 12-month fixed-term position available between 0.4 and 1.0 FTE, based at Burnet Institute, 85 Commercial Road, Melbourne. Flexible working arrangements are available to support individual training requirements.

Let's talk about you

The following criteria are essential requirements:

• Current general medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
• At least three years of postgraduate medical experience (which may include one year of full-time Master of Public Health study).
• A Master of Public Health (or equivalent qualification meeting AFPHM core discipline requirements), or current enrolment in the final year of an eligible MPH program.
• Eligibility to enter the AFPHM Advanced Training Program, or evidence that an application is currently under assessment by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).
• Experience in public health, epidemiology and/or infectious diseases.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

The following are desirable but not essential:

• Experience working in community-based settings.
• Experience working with vulnerable or marginalised populations.
• Capacity and willingness to undertake work in rural and regional Victoria and, where appropriate, international settings.
