Senior Environmental Engineer

About the role
Core Environmental Projects is an employee-owned environmental, engineering, and design consultancy with a strong focus on landfill and contaminated site rehabilitation. We serve clients across Australia, specialising in landfill assessment and rehabilitation, vapour and gas building protection, construction quality assurance, and more.
We are seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer to lead the delivery of environmental engineering and remediation projects across Sydney, based in our Parramatta office. This role is suited to an experienced engineer who is ready to take ownership of their own project portfolio, lead field and design work, and mentor the engineers around them, while working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary consultancy.
What you will do
Take end to end ownership of assigned projects, including scope, budget, programme, client reporting, and project financialsPlan and lead fieldwork including construction quality assurance, inspections, and verification of environmental protection, remediation, gas and vapour mitigation, and containment systemsPrepare and issue design specifications, quality assurance reports, and technical reports for client deliveryApply original technical approaches to complex engineering problems, and evaluate and improve existing systems and methodsConduct internal QA review of designs, models, and documentation prepared by junior and mid-level engineers before client issueDevelop scopes of work, work plans, and fee proposals across projects of varying scaleManage client relationships independently, lead client meetings, and identify opportunities to extend or expand servicesPrepare and approve safety documentation including HSMPs, JSAs and SWMS for the project teamMentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers, providing structured feedback and technical guidance
What we are looking for
Degree in Environmental Engineering or a related disciplineAt least 5 to 7 years of relevant experience, with demonstrated experience delivering projects in the landfill and contaminated land sectorProven ability to manage projects end to end, including scoping, budgeting, programme management, and client reportingStrong problem solving and analytical skills, with sound professional judgement on complex technical problemsWorking knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and environmental legislationStrong technical writing skills and the ability to prepare client-facing reports independentlyA collaborative approach and a genuine interest in mentoring and developing othersChartered status (CPEng, NER or RPEQ), or genuine progress toward it, is highly regardedCurrent driver's licence and willingness to travel to site as requiredProficient with common engineering and computer software
