About the role
Rux Energy, is scaling advanced nanomaterials technology for hydrogen storage, that could potentially displace diesel and directly addresses climate change through the elimination of carbon emissions.
This is a rare opportunity to join one of Australia's leading deep tech clean energy companies and be on the frontline of the energy transition, driving toward our goal of abating at least 1 billion tonnes of CO2e each year by 2050.
We are seeking a highly motivated experienced Process Engineer to join our engineering team in Sydney. The role will be crucial in contributing to the scaling of our production of our breakthrough nano-porous materials from micro-pilot to industrial scale. The role will also support the design and development of associated hydrogen storage systems including tanks and hydrogen charging and discharging systems.
The position requires experience in chemical or mechanical engineering including the design, development, testing, commissioning and operation of pilot and commercial scale plants and associated control systems and safety studies. It will involve liaising with equipment suppliers and project developers in Australia and internationally and will require strong technical, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
Process Plant Development:
Work with our engineering manufacturing team on the process design and development of our mini pilot plant (up to 20 kgpd) and future manufacturing plants.
Review implementation of control and data capture systems for optimising the materials manufacturing process.
Subsequently support the development of the commercial scale materials manufacturing plant (200 to 2000 kgpd) for the manufacturing of our advanced materials.
Work with our engineering team on the development of cryo-compressed storage tanks and enabling systems for hydrogen storage in collaboration with equipment suppliers.
Coordinate engineering activities including design, construction, safety, and delivery of the project schedule.
Liaise with equipment suppliers and supervise installation testing and commissioning.
Review the performance of manufacturing plant and hydrogen storage systems.
Review technical data generated by materials research teams for insights to guide decision-making, materials manufacturing process development and scale-up.
Develop Process Flow Diagrams, Mass and Energy balances, Process and Instrumentation. Diagrams, Basis of Design and other technical documentation for the manufacturing plant and for the hydrogen storage system.s
Identify appropriate equipment, including specifications and cost, and suppliers.
Contribute to or lead safety studies including HAZID, HAZOP as required.
Develop quality, process control and data capture systems for large scale materials manufacturing.
Support liaison with suppliers for materials manufacturing and tank and enabling systems equipment.
Prepare relevant engineering documents including process flow diagrams, process & instrumentation diagrams, mass and energy balances, Basis of design, engineering drawings, Safety Study reports etc.
Prepare high quality technical written reports, suitable for internal stakeholders and external clients.
Experience: A bachelor’s or higher degree in chemical engineering or mechanical engineering or closely related field and 5-10 years of relevant industrial experience in manufacturing engineering or industrial engineering including design, commissioning and operation.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of solid/liquid materials processing and/or pressure vessel design and experience in developing technical information as listed above. Experience with sizing and costing of process equipment and generation of equipment lists and technical specifications.
Safety Focus: Commitment to following safety protocols and maintaining a safe working environment. Experience with and ability to lead HAZOP, HAZID and other safety studies, identify risks and implement mitigation strategies and produce safety related reports.
Analytical Skills: Proficient in data analysis and interpretation using statistical tools and modelling software. Ability to draw meaningful insights from complex datasets and present them effectively. Prior experience with process modelling software such as Aspen Plus, HYSYS, and/or ANSYS Fluent is valued.
Problem-solving Abilities: Demonstrated ability to identify and troubleshoot process-related issues. Proactive approach to problem-solving and a willingness to propose and implement innovative solutions.
Project Management: Experience with engineering project management in the design and construction of engineered equipment or manufacturing plant, use of project management tools and project management skills and experience in ensuring project deliveries against budget and schedule, and detailed reporting on progress to funding providers.
