About NAPCo
The North Australian Pastoral Company (NAPCo) was founded in 1877 and is one of Australia's leading beef cattle companies, managing over 6.1 million hectares, largest single herd in the world and home to Five Founders Beef. NAPCo employs approximately 220 staff operating across Queensland and the Northern Territory, with 15 cattle stations, a Depot in Mount Isa, a Feedlot and Farm in the Darling Downs and an office in Brisbane's CBD.
Castlevale Outstation
The Castlevale Outstation on Mantuan Downs Station is located between Springsure and Tambo in QLD. A large-scale cattle breeding and finishing property covering 134,000ha of land comprised of brigalow/wilga/ bottle tree scrub to open downs and soft forest hollows.
The role
Reporting to the Station Manager, the Overseer will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of Castlevale Outstation. This role supports the Mantuan Downs Station Manager and works closely with the Head Stockman and station crew to deliver the daily work program, manage property operations and contribute to ongoing property development.
Key Responsibilities Include
Overseeing the day-to-day operations of Castlevale OutstationMaintaining best practice animal husbandry standards and upholding NAPCo’s commitment to animal welfareDrafting large mobs of cattle into tight weight groups on arrival from western stations and prior to feedlot entrySupporting the Station Manager to develop operational plans and provide clear direction to team membersLeading, training and developing station staffPrioritising workloads and setting clear expectations for daily tasksPromoting a safe work environment by embedding safe systems of workEnsuring infrastructure, property assets, machinery, vehicles and equipment are maintained to a high standardMaintaining accurate records, including stock movements, treatments, supplement issue and consumptionHosting contractors and visitors as requiredContributing to an inclusive, positive team culture aligned with NAPCo’s values and standards
The ideal candidate will bring:
A minimum of five years’ station experience, including at least two years in a leadership roleExperience on a backgrounding property, highly regarded but not essentialStrong practical experience in herd, pasture and water managementExposure to CAPEX projects and the delivery of property development plansStrong people leadership skills, clear communication and a genuine focus on safety and employee wellbeingThe ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including positive involvement in the local communityIntermediate computer skills, including Word, Excel and Microsoft OutlookAn MR or HR licence, or willingness to obtain oneA current Category AB Weapons Licence, or the ability to obtain oneAccurate record keeping and sound administration skillsGood organisational skills and the ability to adapt priorities to meet deadlines
