Position Classification: Technical Assistant Grade 2
Remuneration: $33.76 - $35.05 per hour
Hours Per Week: up to 38 (Job Share may be considered for part time hours)

Where you'll be working
Westmead Hospital, a key centre for maternity and newborn services. As an Infant Hearing Screener, you will be part of the State-wide Infant Screening – Hearing (SWISH) program, embedded within the maternity and nursery units at Westmead. SWISH is a vital early intervention program dedicated to identifying hearing loss in newborns, ensuring timely support for families and better lifelong outcomes. You will be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team committed to clinical excellence and family-centred care.

What you'll be doing
As a Infant Hearing Screener, you will clinically screen newborn babies in the first days of life for hearing loss prior to discharge using Automated Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR) testing with AABR machinery.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
Perform AABR (Automated Auditory Brainstem Response) testing with AABR machinery, promoting a professional caring environment and family-centred approach when obtaining consent and performing screening.
Administer program documentation including compliance with data collection and recording of results in respective databases and newborn records.
Liaise effectively with parents, team members and other health professionals regarding the hearing screening process, and manage timely onward referral of appropriate newborns.
Maintain confidentiality at all times and manage a busy clinical work environment calmly, being responsive to the needs of new mothers and babies.
Undertake education and training initially and updated annually to meet competency standards for use of hearing screening equipment, and participate in team meetings and quality improvement programs.

Selection Criteria:
Ability to read and write English to an acceptable standard with clear and effective communication skills both written and verbal.
Ability to work well in a team, enhancing the capability and contribution of the team.
Experience in working with mothers and infants.
Previous experience of having worked in a health care setting.
Positive and enthusiastic manner and able to work independently under direction and seeks guidance and supervision as required.
Excellent customer service skills.
Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Citrix applications including eMaternity, IPM and PowerChart Organizer.
