ADA Australia is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that has been advocating for the rights of older people and people with disability for more than 30 years. We provide information, advocacy, education and support to help people understand their rights, navigate complex systems and make informed decisions.

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Financial Advocate to join our specialist advocacy team.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position available until 30 June 2028.

About the Role

If you’re looking for a role that combines financial expertise with meaningful social impact, this is a unique opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of older people.

As a Financial Advocate, you’ll use your financial expertise to help older people understand aged care costs, navigate complex financial issues and make informed decisions about their care and services.

You will provide specialist financial advocacy, education and support, helping older people understand fees, charges and financial obligations, while advocating for fair and equitable outcomes.

You will also provide specialist guidance and support to Aged Care Advocates, helping build capability across the organisation and strengthening the support available to aged care consumers.

Reporting to the Team Leader – Abuse of Older Persons & Financial Advocacy, you will work alongside Aged Care Advocates, legal professionals and key stakeholders to improve outcomes for people receiving Commonwealth-funded aged care services. This is an opportunity to contribute to better outcomes for older people during a period of significant reform in aged care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialist advice on aged care costs, fees, pricing structures, financial statements and invoicing.
• Support older people and their families to understand complex financial information and make informed decisions.
• Advocate on behalf of clients to resolve aged care financial concerns and disputes.
• Deliver education and information sessions to consumers and stakeholders.
• Support advocates with complex financial advocacy matters and contribute to national aged care advocacy initiatives.
• Build relationships with key organisations including Services Australia, My Aged Care and the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.
• Contribute to service improvement, reporting and continuous learning initiatives.

About You

You may have a background in accounting, financial planning, banking, aged care finance, auditing or a related field and be looking for an opportunity to apply your expertise in a role with genuine social impact.

To be successful, you will have:

• Tertiary qualifications in finance, accounting or a related discipline.
• Experience analysing and interpreting complex financial information.
• The ability to explain complex financial concepts in a practical and accessible way.
• Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgement.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• The ability to build trust and communicate with empathy, professionalism and sensitivity.
• A commitment to improving outcomes for older people.

Essential Requirements

• Current Queensland Driver Licence.
• National Criminal History Check (or ability to obtain).
