About the Role

We're looking for an experienced, self-directed bookkeeper who can manage the full function across multiple clients using Xero. This is a hands-on, high-volume role suited to someone who thrives on variety, keeps a clean inbox, and takes ownership of their client portfolio from end to end.

Our clients span a range of industries — from professional services and trades to retail, hospitality, and not-for-profits — so genuine curiosity about how different businesses operate is just as important as technical skill.

Key Responsibilities

• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable across multiple client files in Xero, including invoice entry, bill approvals, credit notes, and payment runs.
• Perform bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations on a weekly or monthly cycle, ensuring all accounts are reconciled accurately and on time.
• Process payroll in Xero or integrated payroll platforms, including timesheet review, superannuation, leave management, and STP lodgement.
• Manage and prioritise a high-volume inbox, triaging queries and documentation across multiple client accounts without letting items fall through.
• Prepare month-end journals, accruals, and prepayments as required.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date chart of accounts, fixed asset registers, and recurring transactions.
• Liaise directly with clients to resolve queries, obtain source documentation, and communicate deadlines.
• Assist with BAS preparation.
• Support year-end processes and provide working papers to external accountants where applicable.
• Learn and adopt new software tools, integrations, and client-specific platforms as the practice and its client base evolve.

About You

• Demonstrated experience as a bookkeeper across the full function — AP, AR, payroll, bank and GL reconciliations.
• Advanced proficiency in Xero (non-negotiable), including bank rules, reporting, payroll module, and multi-entity management.
• Proven ability to manage multiple client files simultaneously, maintaining accuracy under competing deadlines.
• Strong inbox and task management — you can context-switch across clients without losing track.
• Solid understanding of Australian GST, PAYG withholding, superannuation obligations, and STP reporting.
• Willingness to learn new software and systems beyond Xero — we work with a range of add-ons and client-specific platforms, and need someone who picks things up quickly rather than sticking to what they already know.
• Genuine interest in working across different industries; you enjoy getting under the hood of how a business operates, not just processing its transactions.
• Excellent attention to detail and a low tolerance for unreconciled balances.
• Clear, professional communication — comfortable liaising directly with clients and their advisors.

Desirable

• Experience in a bookkeeping practice or multi-client environment (not solely in-house).
• Certificate IV in Bookkeeping or Accounting, or BAS Agent registration.

Pay: $34.00 – $46.00 per hour
