About the role
advancedlife is a family-owned Australian school photography and print business, based in Brookvale on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. We’ve been photographing students and staff for more than 40 years. These days that means hundreds of thousands of students each year, along with a real responsibility for secure student data, reliable systems and a better experience for schools and families.
We’re setting up a new Transformation Office to change how work is planned and delivered. It’s early days. The team is small, the work is visible, and we’re looking for people who like making things clearer and then seeing them through.
About the role
This is an on-site Business Analyst role in Brookvale, reporting to the Head of Transformation and Technology. You’ll spend a lot of time with leaders and subject-matter experts who haven’t always worked in formal project or Agile ways. The job is to listen properly, work out what they actually need, and turn that into work a delivery team can pick up.
In practice, that means you will:
Sit with business leaders, process owners and SMEs to discover and document what they need, through interviews, workshops and watching how the work really happens
Turn that into well-structured Epics and User Stories, with clear acceptance criteria, enough business context, and a sense of priority
Help break work into sensible pieces, call out dependencies, and keep plans light enough that people actually use them
Work with Product Owners and stakeholders to keep backlogs clear, prioritised and ready
Run workshops and walkthroughs that help people contribute, without burying them in jargon
Look at current processes so we can see what should change and what shouldn’t
Help define acceptance criteria and support UAT so what we deliver matches what the business asked for
There are no direct reports. You’ll get things done through clarity and good working relationships.
Who we’re looking for
We’re after someone who is genuinely self-motivated. You don’t need a packed ceremony calendar to know what good looks like. You’re happy sitting with the work, asking the next useful question, and leaving behind stories and plans other people can use.
You’ll be a good fit if you:
Have 3 or more years in business analysis, or a similar role covering requirements, process and change
Can write Epics and User Stories that both developers and non-technical people can work from
Have used Lean and Agile in real teams (Scrum, Kanban or a mix), not just in training
Can run a workshop that people find useful
Are comfortable using Jira for backlog work. You don’t need to administer it.
Write and speak in plain language
A degree in business, IT or a related field is useful. CBAP, IIBA, Scrum Master or Agile BA credentials are well regarded. Experience and judgement matter more.
How we work
The role is on-site in Brookvale. A lot of the value comes from being in the room with operations, product and delivery. We keep process lean: enough structure to deliver, not extras for the sake of it. Because the Transformation Office is new, you’ll help set the standard for how work is described and planned. We handle student data every day, so accuracy and care matter.
How to apply
Apply through SEEK with your CV. A short note on why a new Transformation Office interests you will help more than a generic cover letter.
