Dental Assistant / Receptionist (Dual Role)

Smile Studio Newstead is a boutique general and cosmetic practice in the heart of Newstead. We are known for two things: a genuinely calm patient experience, and a preventive philosophy that goes beyond the standard six month clean. Our clinical focus areas include oral microbiome dentistry and early intervention orthodontics, so our patients tend to be curious, engaged, and in it for the long term.

The practice is small enough that you will know every patient by name, and considered enough that you will never feel like a number yourself.

We are looking for one person to cover both chairside assisting and front of house. It is a deliberate design, not a compromise. Splitting the week means you get variety, you understand the patient journey end to end, and you are never stuck doing the same eight hours on repeat.

The hours are genuinely flexible. If you need to be finished by school pick up, if you want three longer days instead of five short ones, or if you are looking to balance this alongside study or another commitment, tell us what works and we will build the roster around it. Term time arrangements can be discussed.

Chairside (clinical support)

• Four handed assisting for general, cosmetic, and preventive treatment

• Preparing and turning over surgeries between patients

• Instrument reprocessing and sterilisation in line with ADA and AS/NZS 4815 requirements

• Taking radiographs (if licensed) and preparing imaging for the clinician

• Stock control, ordering, and maintaining clinical inventory

• Supporting infection control auditing and daily compliance checks

Front of house (reception)

• Warm, unhurried greeting and patient care from the moment they arrive

• Appointment scheduling, recalls, and diary optimisation

• Preparing and presenting treatment plans and estimates

• Health fund claiming, HICAPS, invoicing, and daily reconciliation

• Managing phone, email, and online enquiries

• Keeping accurate patient records and correspondence

Essential

• A warm, calm manner with patients and a genuinely collaborative approach with the team

• Strong organisation and the ability to switch contexts without losing the thread

• Clear written and verbal communication

• Comfort with practice software and general computer literacy

• Current CPR certification, or willingness to obtain one

• Australian work rights

Highly regarded

• Certificate III in Dental Assisting (HLT35021), or equivalent experience

• Previous dental reception experience, particularly with health fund claiming and treatment plan presentation

• Experience with Dentally

If you have solid assisting experience but limited reception exposure, or the reverse, we are happy to train you across. Attitude and reliability matter more to us than a perfect resume.
