INIT Australia is delivering next-generation smart transport technology as part of the Opal Next Generation Program, and we're looking for an experienced IT Operations Lead to join our growing team.
This opportunity This is a unique opportunity for an experienced IT Operations Lead to join a major technology program at the point where the operational environment is being designed and built — rather than stepping into an established system and simply keeping it running.
You’ll play a key role throughout the design, deployment and operational readiness phases, helping shape how the technology environment will be supported, monitored, secured and operated before transitioning into the day-to-day Operate & Maintain phase.
Working closely with technology, engineering, security, release and operational stakeholders, you’ll bring an operational mindset to the project from the outset and ensure the environment is genuinely ready for production.
What you'll be doing You will take ownership of the operational readiness and transition strategy, including:
- Defining operational handover procedures for the transition from project delivery into Operate & Maintain.
- Leading IT Operations Readiness assessments throughout the project lifecycle.
- Providing operational input into the design and deployment of the technology environment.
- Establishing monitoring, alerting, operational runbooks and support processes.
- Developing and validating disaster recovery capability, including testing and remediation.
- Establishing major incident management, escalation and service restoration processes.
- Providing operational oversight across DEV, TEST, UAT and PROD environments.
- Leading capacity planning, operational risk management and continuous improvement.
- Ensuring operational processes align with contractual obligations, service levels and relevant security, payment and regulatory requirements.
- Working with the Hosting Provider and other technology partners to ensure operational performance and resilience.
About You
You’re an experienced IT Operations professional who enjoys building and improving environments, rather than simply managing BAU operations.
You’ll ideally bring:
- 8+ years’ experience in IT Operations, including leadership responsibility.
- Experience managing enterprise-scale, cloud-based production environments and service performance.
- Strong experience in operational readiness, service transition and/or managed services.
- Demonstrated experience leading major incidents and complex escalations.
- Experience with disaster recovery planning, testing and remediation.
- Strong understanding of operational risk, service governance and continuous improvement.
- Experience with ServiceNow ITSM/CMDB.
- ITIL v4 certification is desirable, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in regulated, public sector or transport environments would be advantageous.
- Exposure to PCI/DSS, ISO/IEC 20000 and/or ISO 27001 is desirable.
Azure experience
We’re looking for someone with solid enterprise Azure experience across a relevant selection of technologies and, importantly, the ability to understand how the different components come together to create a secure, resilient and supportable production environment.
Experience with technologies such as Terraform, Azure DevOps, Azure Firewall, Application Gateway, API Management, Azure Monitor, Defender, Azure Backup/Site Recovery, Cloudflare WAF or ZTNA would be beneficial.
Why this role? The real attraction is the opportunity to shape the operational environment before it exists.
Rather than inheriting someone else’s architecture, processes and problems, you’ll have the opportunity to influence how the environment is designed, how it will be monitored and supported, how incidents will be managed, how resilience will be tested and ultimately how the service will transition into live operations.
It’s an opportunity to put your operational expertise into the project from the beginning and leave a lasting mark on how the service operates.
If you’re an experienced IT Operations leader who wants to be involved in building something properly from the ground up, we’d love to hear from you.
Why Join INITIf you're looking for a role where your ideas, technical expertise and leadership will genuinely shape the success of a major technology program, we'd love to hear from you.
