Support Someone to Build the Independent Life They Want
Make a genuine difference while helping someone live life on their own terms.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the well-established support team of an intelligent, motivated and engaging man living with Cerebral Palsy.
He is currently living with his parents in Mosman Park and is preparing to return to his own home in East Fremantle. As he takes this exciting next step towards greater independence, he is looking for additional Personal Assistants to join his dedicated team and support him to achieve his goals, pursue his interests and live the life he chooses.
He is currently working and has a keen interest in technology, travel, music, good food, sport, current affairs and meaningful conversation with friends. He is passionate about staying active, being connected and involved in his community and is looking for Personal Assistants who share a positive, patient and person-centred approach.
This is a unique one-on-one role where you will have the opportunity to build a genuine working relationship and play an important part in supporting him to live life on his terms. Think going to the pub, attending concerts and watching the footy, through to travelling, studying, exploring new interests and building friendships. This role is about much more than providing care. It is about supporting someone to participate in the things that make life meaningful to them.
About the Role
This opportunity combines personal care and high-care support with community participation, independence building and lifestyle support.
You will be joining a small, well-established team, and will play an important role in supporting his transition back into his own home, maintaining his independence and participating in the activities and interests that matter most to him.
Personal Assistants are directly employed by the person on a casual basis. My Place is providing a supporting function only and is not the employer of the Personal Assistant.
Support may include:
Personal Care and Daily Living
Personal care including showering, dressing and toileting
PEG feeding, catheter care and bowel care
Assistance with eating and drinking
Manual handling, transfers and positioning using equipment and a manual hoist
Assistance with therapy programs, stretching and hydrotherapy
Medication prompts and health-related supports as required
Home and Lifestyle Support
Supporting the transition back into his own home in East Fremantle
Assisting with meal planning, grocery shopping and cooking
Maintaining a clean, organised and welcoming home
Household duties and gardening to help maintain a comfortable home environment.
The use of assistive technology and communication systems
Assisting with emails, messages, technology and environmental controls
Community Participation and Independence
Participation and transport to appointments, activities and social events
Attending concerts, sporting events and other recreational activities
Involvement in book clubs, walking groups, creative programs and community organisations
Going to the pub and catching up with friends
Assisting with study and lifelong learning goals
Supporting travel plans and future adventures
Assisting to build and maintain social relationships and community connections
About You
This role would suit someone with previous experience in disability support, aged care or another high-care environment. It is not an entry-level position, although person-specific training will be provided.
You will be someone who genuinely enjoys helping another person live a full , active and meaningful life.
You will:
Have experience supporting people with complex physical disabilities and high-care needs
Be confident with manual handling, personal care and transfers
Be an experienced and safe driver
Be a strong communicator who can listen, follow direction and work collaboratively
Be reliable, patient, adaptable and respectful
Have a practical, common-sense approach
Be enthusiastic and willing to get involved
Understand the importance of making a house feel like a home.
Be comfortable supporting participation in social and community activities
Have a positive attitude and good sense of humour
Be committed to forming a genuine, long-term working relationship
Pay Rate
Casual rates of $39.00 - $65.00 per hour (+superannuation) depending on the day, time and level of experience
Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
Experience in disability support, aged care, nursing or a similar field
NDIS Worker Screening Check
NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate
Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
Current Australian Driver's Licence
Australian working rights
Experience with manual handling and transfers
Highly Regarded
Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, or equivalent;
Experience supporting people with Cerebral Palsy
Experience supporting the use of assistive technology
Experience working within a one-person support model
Shifts Available
We are currently seeking additional team members to join his existing team with a range of shifts available. The consumer requires 24/7 care with the occasional 2:1 support for certain activities.
As he transitions back into his own home and becomes more involved in community events and activities, there is potential for additional hours and expanded support arrangements.
Flexibility across multiple shift types is highly desirable.
