Primary objective
Provide high-level strategic, evidence-based advice and research to inform the development of strategic policy, planning and decision-
making and management of projects related to student wellbeing and inclusion to better support schools and improve education outcomes
for students.
Context statement
Student Wellbeing and Inclusion Programs and Services is part of Inclusion and Engagement Services, which provides differentiated
support services to reform inclusion and improve engagement and access to learning for children, students and communities. Student
Wellbeing and Inclusion Programs and Services provides advice, guidance and support to clients and stakeholders to ensure all children
and students are welcomed into an inclusive learning environment and are able to engage effectively with education and learn to their full
potential.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide strategic, evidence-based analysis and advice on a range of student wellbeing and inclusion matters to support high-level
policy development and improved education outcomes.
2. Research, consult, develop and review policies to provide guidance to schools and key stakeholders on issues relating to inclusive
practices, wellbeing and health of students.
3. Coordinate and support the development, governance, monitoring and reporting of key projects and collaborative initiatives,
including contributing to funding and accountability processes where required.
4. Prepare high-quality reports, submissions, briefings and correspondence, ensuring the delivery of effective, consistent and timely
policy advice.
5. Build and maintain productive partnerships with stakeholders at the local and national levels.
6. Support the department’s strategic direction by contributing to the formulation of divisional strategies, plans and policy frameworks,
assist with capability building across the team, and provide leadership, guidance and performance management of staff as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated strategic, conceptual and analytical capability, including experience in policy development, applying systems
thinking, and designing frameworks and initiatives that align with relevant legislation, policy and regulatory requirements.
2. Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality reports, briefings and correspondence, tailor
messages to diverse audiences and communicate with influence.
3. Highly developed organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet tight deadlines, work independently and
operate effectively as part of a collaborative team.
4. Proven ability to build and sustain productive relationships with stakeholders, negotiate effectively and work with people from
diverse cultural backgrounds, including in politically sensitive environments.
5. Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering strategic and evidence-based analysis and advice on complex policy issues.
6. Experience in managing and/or contributing to the delivery, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of policies and projects, with the
ability to support governance and accountability processes as identified areas of improvement.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in public policy, project management, governance or similar.
2. Contemporary knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
