About the role
In-House Legal Counsel (Litigation) / Fractional General CounselPart-time contract | One day per week | Initial three-month engagementA client is seeking an experienced litigation solicitor or suitably qualified legal services firm to act as solicitor on record and provide independent litigation support across a diverse portfolio of matters.This role will suit a senior practitioner who is comfortable working autonomously, managing competing priorities and taking responsibility for matters from initial assessment through to resolution.
Key responsibilitiesThe successful practitioner will provide end-to-end litigation support, including:preparing and reviewing pleadings, affidavits, court documents and legal correspondenceadvising on litigation strategy, procedure, risk and potential outcomesmanaging interlocutory applications and procedural mattersrepresenting clients in courts and tribunals, where appropriatesupporting negotiations, mediation and other alternative dispute resolution processescoordinating with counsel, experts, counterparties and relevant stakeholdersensuring matters are progressed efficiently and in accordance with applicable court rules and deadlinesmaintaining clear records and providing concise updates on matter status, risks and required decisions
The portfolio may include matters relating to:propertybanking and financecorporate and commercial lawfamily lawwills and probategovernment and regulatory matterscomplianceeducationEssential requirementsApplicants must have:an unrestricted Australian practising certificateadmission to the Supreme Court of New South Wales, or current authority to practise and conduct litigation in NSWsubstantial litigation and dispute-resolution experiencethe ability and willingness to act as solicitor on recorddemonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervisionstrong legal drafting, advocacy, negotiation and matter-management capabilitiesprofessional indemnity insurance appropriate to the engagementconfidence working across Microsoft Office, iOS, VOIP, CRM and AI-enabled systems
Experience across several of the identified practice areas will be highly regarded. Applicants are not necessarily expected to be specialists in every area but must be capable of identifying when specialist counsel or additional expertise is required.
