The Role 
As Legal and Compliance Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring NGS Super continues to meet its regulatory obligations while delivering positive outcomes for members. Working at the intersection of compliance, regulation and legal advisory, you'll provide practical, commercially minded guidance that supports sound decision-making across the business.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Compliance, you'll embed and strengthen the compliance framework, provide legal advice on regulatory requirements and breach reporting obligations, support incident management and regulatory engagement activities. Partnering closely with stakeholders across the organisation, you'll influence risk and compliance outcomes while ensuring the Fund operates with integrity, accountability and a strong focus on member interests.

What you’ll do

• Provide legal and compliance advice on superannuation, financial services and regulatory obligations, ensuring business activities align with legislative requirements. 
• Assess incidents and breaches, advise on reporting obligations, and support the Trustee in meeting regulatory requirements under relevant legislation. 
• Partner with ASIC, APRA and other regulators, coordinating responses to regulatory requests and supporting regulatory engagement activities. 
• Monitor and interpret regulatory developments, providing practical guidance and leading the implementation of regulatory change across the Fund. 
• Review and provide legal advice on key member and regulatory documents, including PDSs, SENs, TMDs, annual reports and other disclosure materials. 
• Support the preparation and review of governance and regulatory submissions, policies and statements to ensure ongoing compliance. 
• Provide specialist compliance advice on insurance and death benefit claims, complaints handling, and AFCA-related matters, including participation on the Claims Review Committee. 
• Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of NGS Super’s Compliance Management Framework and compliance governance processes. 
• Conduct compliance risk assessments, assurance and monitoring activities, including oversight of compliance obligations, incidents and breach management processes. 
• Build compliance awareness across the business by providing guidance, education and reporting, and contributing to Board, Committee and Executive papers.

About you 
A commercially minded legal and compliance professional with experience navigating complex regulatory environments, you will bring:

• A tertiary qualification in Law and a current Australian practising certificate. 
• Strong knowledge of the Australian superannuation and financial services regulatory environment, with an up-to-date understanding of legislative and compliance obligations. 
• Proven experience providing legal and compliance advice within a regulated financial services environment, including the development and maintenance of governance, risk and compliance frameworks. 
• Demonstrated expertise in managing regulatory and compliance risk across complex and evolving business environments. 
• A track record of building trusted relationships and influencing outcomes across diverse stakeholder groups, with strong communication, negotiation and relationship management skills and a ‘can do’ attitude. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical, business-focused advice.

Nice to have but not essential:

• Recognised relevant professional certification/accreditation (e.g. CPA, CA, CFA, CFP, Dip FS, RG146).
• Membership of professional bodies such as the Australian Compliance Institute or the Risk Management Institute of Australia (RMIA).
