Business Development Manager - Private Health Insurance

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Business Development Manager to play a pivotal role in expanding Doctors Health Fund's reach and strengthening its position within the healthcare sector. Rather than building from the ground up, you'll leverage Avant's established national network, trusted relationships and strong reputation to unlock new growth opportunities and deliver meaningful outcomes for members.

Based in Sydney, this permanent full-time role combines strategic planning, relationship management and business development. You'll work closely with teams across Doctors Health Fund and the wider Avant Group to develop referral pathways, activate a national BDM network, identify new partnership opportunities and deliver sustainable membership growth.

This role will suit a commercially minded and relationship-driven professional who enjoys working autonomously, influencing stakeholders, uncovering opportunities and achieving results. You'll represent Doctors Health Fund across the healthcare industry, build strong connections with key decision-makers and help shape the future growth strategy of a unique organisation dedicated to supporting Australia's medical professionals.

Key Accountabilities

Drive Membership Growth

• Achieve agreed growth targets through qualified referral opportunities generated via Avant's BDM network and direct business development activity.
• Identify, pursue and secure new business opportunities across the medical and healthcare community.
• Develop tailored solutions that address customer needs and support member acquisition and retention.
• Apply effective sales and objection-handling techniques to maximise conversion opportunities.

Activate and Enable Avant's BDM Network

• Equip Avant Group BDMs with the tools, knowledge and confidence to identify and refer suitable Doctors Health Fund opportunities.
• Design and implement referral pathways, sales tools, messaging and feedback mechanisms that improve lead quality and conversion outcomes.
• Monitor and optimise referral strategy, processes and network performance.
• Partner with the Marketing team to deliver campaigns, training and sales enablement initiatives that support growth.

Build Strategic Relationships

• Develop and maintain influential relationships across the healthcare industry, including hospitals, practices, allied health providers and key partners.
• Represent Doctors Health Fund at conferences, industry functions, forums and events.
• Identify and pursue new channel, partnership and referral opportunities within the medical community.

Deliver Market Insight and Commercial Outcomes

• Maintain a strong understanding of industry trends, regulatory developments and competitor activity.
• Use data, reporting and market insights to identify opportunities and inform strategy.
• Ensure all sales activities align with regulatory and compliance requirements.

Collaborate Across the Avant Group

• Partner with teams across Doctors Health Fund and Avant to align growth initiatives and deliver a seamless member experience.
• Work closely with sales, call centre and marketing teams to improve lead management, reporting and conversion outcomes.
• Contribute to team planning, strategy development and the sharing of best practice.

Key Capabilities

• Demonstrated success in a Business Development, Sales or Relationship Management role, with a track record of achieving or exceeding targets.
• Experience within private health insurance, health services, healthcare, financial services or another highly regulated industry.
• Strong understanding of the private health insurance landscape, including industry trends, regulation and competitive dynamics.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to build credibility and influence a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong presentation, communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to identify customer needs and develop tailored solutions that create value.
• Experience interpreting performance data and translating insights into action.
• Highly organised, proactive and capable of managing competing priorities.
• Strong commercial acumen and problem-solving ability.
• Experience enabling referral networks, partner channels or distributed sales teams is highly regarded.
